This is track 3 of an upcoming 5-track EP out in full May 23rd. It's about unrequited love. It's an acoustic track, just finger-picked acoustic guitar and vocals.

“This is about a toxic relationship inspired by the music of Charlie Puth. The song came together after watching some music production tutorials online with Charlie Puth and I was inspired by my love of his CHARLIE album, which is now in my Top 5 albums of all time. I get inspired for the direction of a song by my initial idea and so for this I was thinking Charlie Puth, which had me think of the word ‘proof’ and then the direction of the song was there. The opening lyric came to me and with that I created a story of a toxic relationship. It all came very quickly, which is always exciting. Thank you.”

Image is a wide shot of sunrise this morning. I've waited for it for nearly a year to get to that spot on the hill. So lucky. I was writing the song Karma Trees until 5am still up and then noticed the sun was only 30 minutes away so I decided to stay up for it. Slightly worth it even though I feel like I drank 10 pints of Guinness 😆

This songs inspiration has been cooking for nearly 20 years. My Auntie has been a spiritual seer for me over the last few decades. One day I cycled out to her place, it was 2006 I think and I was in a similar mode that I am in now, intensely absorbed in the music and in turn my existence.

So I arrived on my boulder of a bike that said Wolverine on the side of it for one of our rare and very special in person meets. Before going into the house I blindly hugged a tree in my aunt's garden because she told me to do that to stay grounded.
When we went into the living room my aunt offered me a glass of water. Parched, I said yes please and then noticed a glass full of water on the coffee table and I suggested I could drink that and not waste it instead. My Aunt matter of factly said something to the effect of, that's ok Carl I'll get you a fresh glass, you don't want my other friends karma. I hadn't fully embraced and maybe dismissed karma in my head at the time which is probably why I didn't pressure my aunt for more details on that then... but ever interested to understand I have thought of the moment regularly since and wondered what she may have meant.

Yesterday I had the thought that it could have been tied to the potential energy the physical world offers our soul. That glass of water could have been light for our mystery friend but it was not absorbed and appreciated. I believe my aunt possibly empowered the water with her light (at least by offering it but possibly with more detailed good intentions) in an attempt to give her friend the most from their moments together. No doubt the friend absorbed lots of light and good from the session but there was some left on the table... Not appreciated. It wasn't intended for me in the first place... I'm still not entirely sure why my good intention to re-use the same water doesn't transcend that but sure I can ask my aunt that now that it's a little clearer in my head... 19 years later 😅🥳

So before writing this song I delivered myself that wonderful water filled intentional balance. A wonderful artist on here taught me recently that if you drink water 20 minutes before a take .. You sing to the best of your abilities. Hydrated we are closer to being at one with ourselves and the source of our existence  🔆💦 Just like when we hug a tree... Although the hug is not enough. You also have to realise you are the tree and then your hugging yourself and maybe you can start living your life on that leveled basis with the rest of this beautiful life that extends our from you 🧬

I sing acoustic singer-songwriter music, or folk-pop. I started out by learning the piano when I was five years old, and the violin followed shortly afterwards, then the clarinet, the harp...
I concentrate on guitar and ukulele-based tunes now, with songs also written for piano, for example 'Comet' which received airplay with BBC Radio 6. I graduated from university with a degree in Music and Creative Writing in 2013. I like to think I knew how to write a good tune before I got anywhere near university...
I've toured around the UK festival scene as an up and coming act and released two EPs. I got to play the same festival with the likes of Tom Odell, Frank Turner, Razorlight, John Newman: big British names. I'm an independent musician with big aspirations.
