Field Recordings - Banff Trip

This recording was done on the Johnson Canyon Trail, in Banff National Park (Alberta, Canada) on the way to the "Ink Pots" 

This was the quietest part of the trail I could find on a busy winter weekend. It was a perfectly clear sky, but a slight wind would brush snow off the treetops, making for the lightest of snow dustings.

Winter Forest

A thawing river that feeds the beautiful Lake Louise in Banff National Park (Alberta, Canada) 

Captured near some rocks that were making an especially interesting *ker-plunk* sort of sound!

Melting River

The Lower Fall on the Johnson Canyon Trail in Banff National Park (Alberta, Canada) 

Taken at the beginning of March, as the river and falls are slowly beginning to thaw, it makes for a very unique waterfall sound. Since the thaw is below the surface, there is no 'fall', and you only hear the constant rush of water coming from underneath the remaining ice.

Frozen Waterfall 1

The Upper Falls on the Johnson Canyon Trail in Banff National Park (Alberta, Canada)

Frozen Waterfall 2

This was captured on the side of a highway in the interior of British Columbia, Canada, on a warm day in the early spring. As the ground begins to thaw, ice and rocks begin to simply fall away from this part of the mountain. I could see small streams of water pouring out of the dirt, and I had to be a bit careful as some rocks came falling quite near to me!

This song is so dark and haunting but adds a memorable back beat that helps the whole track come alive. It's hard to describe what I pictured when I was done making this one, but it was something villainous to say the least.
