VOICE ACTOR (UK) 

VOICE ACTOR’s music buzzes like a brain. It vibrates, oscillates and turns strange stimuli into electrical waves. Their 2022 album Sent From My Telephone sometimes felt less like music than neural entertainment: a gargantuan sketchbook, nearly four and a half hours long, blending spoken-word poetry, distorted samples, and noirish drones. That epic transmission confirmed Voice Actor as one of the most mysterious acts on Belgian’s outsider-music label Stroom led by Ziggy Devriendt aka Nosedrip. 

In January 2025 Noa Kurzweil aka VOICE ACTOR released Lust (1) together with obscure Welsh producer Squu – an album which gracefully alternates between sensual ambient with soft gestures of two-step /garage and downbeat/dub. Though more compact than her debut, the new album’s hazy blend of blown-out ambient and indecipherable murmurs taps into a similarly delirious dream state. Even in its vaguest and most abstract moments, Lust (1) possesses sharp expressive powers. It mimics that state of good sex when thresholds explode and all logic flushes out.

Kurzweil renders words beautifully, in a tactile and onomatopoeic way. Her voice abstractions glow even more keenly, as she forfeits meaning to phonemes.

Solo Isa (1/2 of Bara & Isa) is a Vienna based musician. She co-hosts the (currently on pause) radio show Sad*Crab Radio and is working on "new songs from meraviglia" (a collaboration with Verschrin), solo material as well as new material for Bara & Isa.

Beautiful soul umki (@keyfell) joins us on this episode of patina. I've been such a huge fan of umki's sounds and collages especially their most recent release wtih @geotherapy. What a gorgeous production.

umki (also one half of uwuwuU) and based on Ngunnawal and Ngambri country, shapes hypertextural sound & visual languages into rituals for feeling, remembering, and becoming. 

Their work gestures toward queer futurity, myth, memory, and the building of tender thresholds for unmasking and summoning. Working across sound and visual art, umki's soundscapes ebb between post-club destruction and ambient latency, tracing soft architectures of imagined spaces. They have supported artists including Nai Palm, Ana Roxanne, Perila and JS (Motion Ward) and founded [portal] in Canberra, a mutable platform which recently hosted its first show abroad at bonobo in Shibuya.

Sama Recordings - founded 2014 in Vienna by Benedikt Guschlbauer - is an independent record label for advanced audio aspects free of aesthetic or genre-based borders and stands for forward thinking music, which enriches body, soul and mind. We would like to showcase diversive creative approaches by local & international artists active in the vast fields of contemporary electronic music. A certain elevating spirit has to radiate from these waves and frequencies we want to present you.

The arabic term "Samâ" refers to whirling or listening in the language of mysticism. During a samâ ceremony, subtle vibrations are created by playing frame drums (daffs) that grasp the heart and also induce mystical trance. Thus Samâ, the art of listening among the Sufis, refers to the perception of inner vibrations. For me personally the word “sama” functions as a methaphore for conscious listening and dancing.
