A-laise, an accomplished artist and musician, delivers original tracks with a smooth, mellow, and upbeat sound. Thank you very much to everyone who takes the time to listen, like and share my noises. I am extremely grateful. My apologies if I take a little while to respond to those that leave nice comments.

I like listening to music, making simple, tunes when I have time, and generally faffing about in an inefficient manner. Hopefully you might like something on offer here. 

I use a Hinkler Cigar Box guitar (about $30 from Aldi, great fun), a Flying V ukulele, a couple of old keyboards, other bits and bobs, and a Yamaha tenor saxophone.

Welcome friends and to my profile! I hope to celebrate 300 original tracks on Soundcloud this year!  Thank you for listening and helping me in my musical journey. It has been a difficult year for me personally. Yet, musically, I believe I am writing some of my best music.  I am infinitely inspired and humbled by the extraordinary creativity I hear from your music each day and the wonderful friends I have encountered from every part of the world! THANK YOU! What Inspires Me...I am inspired each day to compose music that touches and connects the listener in meaningful ways that are personal to their own experiences and feelings.  I believe what the world needs is more songs about love for all living things and the earthly treasures around us. The power of love is magical, mysterious, and miraculous!  And, it is essential to our survival like water and the air we breathe.  I believe that through the universal language of music, love can heal, bring joy, and create an invisible chain that pulls all of us together, not apart.  

A Little About Me...I started composing in 2016  after not touching the piano for many years. A career, raising a family and just every day life got in the way of making music. After retiring as a music teacher in the public schools, I started dreaming of playing the piano again and my years of classical training slowly came back to me. I love every genre of music, and the talent and creativity on SoundCloud has inspired me at every level!

For those of you who follow me on Soundcloud, I have been experimenting with adding tracks to my piano compositions.  I create and record everything myself using a Yamaha 660DGX, including the instrumental tracks built into the keyboard. Then, I edit on my laptop using Sony Sound Forge Music Pro.  It's a simple set up, and I have lots to learn.  I am not afraid of receiving feedback if you have any to give.  Sometimes, it's the most simple thing I may be doing wrong that changes everything!

@JTSunrise was born in Chicago, IL (the City of Blues) in 1968. JT grew up on a rural horse farm at Cuba Township near Fox River Grove, along the C&NW tracks, about an hour by train outside the city. Summer nights before the internet were for sleeping outside and watching stars, singing and playing guitar to his girlfriends, and hitching trains from his backyard. Anywhere JT went, he had his acoustic guitar slung around his back. JT also learned bass and banjo, and started a folk band in high school, playing house parties and school concerts and busking the commuter train station in Barrington, IL.

His teenage years took him around the world and to Tempe, AZ in 1987, (age 19) where he lived in the same building (and jammed often) with Spiral Stairs, a seminal guitarist who would later form the band Pavement. JT played acoustic sets at the legendary Sun Club. During this time, Robin Wilson of the Gin Blossoms (JT’s record store clerk friend) did his sound.

Seattle Music Era

Arriving in Seattle in 1992 with his Tempe barista girlfriend PJ (now wife), JT immersed himself in a city alive with music innovation. This was to become known as a time when Seattle bands reshaped the musical landscape. Amidst the scene, JTSunrise carved a niche and performed shows, blending busking music with the amplified Seattle sound, his Tempe-styled lyrical command, and the soul of Chicago street blues.

His performances became the background of Seattle’s music venues, from the intimate setting of **Art Bar** to the historic **OK Hotel**, where grunge legends made history. He captivated audiences at **Sit & Spin**, a venue combining a laundromat with a bar and live music, and found a true home at the **Lake Union Pub**, a legendary punk dive bar that embraced him as their own. Each chord, each lyric, carried the weight of personal experience.

Musical Influences and Style

JTSunrise draws from icons like Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and Billy Bragg, alongside bands he admired in Tempe such as Gin Blossoms and Dead Hot Workshop. The bands at the Sun Club and Long Wongs in Tempe, AZ shaped his sound and approach. These influences, coupled with the music scene in 1990s Seattle (including Elise Sauer, Obe-Wan Kenobe, and everyone to ever perform at the Lake Union Pub), molded his blend of folk, punk, country blues, and acoustic pop.

Among his many contributions to the musical landscape, a few songs stand out:
- **"Saint James Infirmary"**: A haunting rendition of the classic ballad.
- **"Biscuit Roller Blues"**: A soulful, gritty track that showcases blues roots.

JTSunrise’s influence extends beyond music. His commitment to authentic Seattle art is evident in his participation and support of local artists and musicians. As of 2024 he remains a licensed Pike Place Market busker, a role that allows him to share handmade music directly with the community any time, creating intimate, memorable experiences for locals and visitors.

I’m more of a DJ who loves to be creative with music and loves to perform, and wants to share this creativity with others.  Lately, I’ve been experimenting with Groovepad. It’s an app that I use on my iPhone and the loops are made by other amazing artists and producers. All I’m doing is having a blast arranging and rearranging these amazing loops during a live recording and sharing these experiences with everyone. Good or bad, it’s a great time to celebrate life! 😁 I have an understanding of music fundamentals from being in band, jazz band, etc. and I have a real passion for the universal language of music.
