When the state of people of the world seems out of whack, I take comfort in Mother Nature’s equinox, a day when light and darkness are in balance. This year’s equinox occurs on a new moon, a rare event and a symbol for setting intentions for new life with gratitude for blessings already received.

For us living in the top half of the earth, we will see less light until the passage of Winter Solstice. For friends living in the lower half of the planet, may you enjoy the coming of the light until it fully blooms at Summer Solstice. Until then, on the equinox, 22 of September, 2025, we jointly experience an equality of night and day 🌚🌞

While Equinox presents us with equal day and night, the song definitely expresses my personal sadness at the reality of light fading into winter in my half of the world. The diminishing of light also reminds me of Dylan Thomas’ poem, Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night, in which he wrote, “Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” So the music is truthful, and like all personal truths, this, too, will change. And can change as fast as a trip south of the sun-drenched Equator 😀✌️

Ripples was inspired by gratitude — never underestimate the short- and long-term impact of kindness. Sometimes we never see the impact, the why something mattered and to whom. I still remember past kindnesses from people that to this day motivate or comfort me. They couldn’t have had the slightest idea — unless they had a crystal ball — to foresee how important their acts of kindness would matter to me later in life. So 🙏

Lyrically, a question is not asked, but is implied in the song:

Do you bring a blessin’ or a chore?

This song began in Artur's jam room at his house, where he creates all of his amazing music on his Fender Jaguar, which is perfect for the surf sound, at which he's a master. He shared it with Josh, who shared it with the group.
  Before Josh could lay down a bass part to it, though, JJ came up with his elegantly moody synth and laid it down. The rhythm section, Josh and Ken, then did their usual dance, dialing it in with some back and forth. Stephen was next in line, adding a subtle duet with Artur's chords. Tez then played the ethereal lead throughout most of it. Stephen, after it was pretty much laid down, came through with the ripping wah solo towards the end.
  Once the music was all taken care of, Carl came up with some great lyrics for it, and sang them, as the newest member of the group. He also laid down an accompanying acoustic rhythm guitar part, too. After Carl did his thing, we turned it over to Stephen for a mix, which he did with his professional skill set.
  This is the latest in a long line of surf rock tunes Artur has shared with Eclectic Collective. If you dig the sound, he has plenty more great ones on his page, which are worth checking out, too. We tried to do this with a little nod to The Police, the band, not the profession. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it. Thanks for listening.

I used a phrase from a comment I received from Stars Mighty Fine as the title.
First, I see a chaotic array of tones, and then I try to create some kind of structure from that chaos. I think the process of composing is simply trying to control the song and sound with all my might.
