When the road you planned suddenly closes, it’s easy to think the journey’s over. But detours aren’t dead ends — they’re opportunities to see life from a different angle. Another Way is about recognising that setbacks often redirect us toward paths we never would have chosen, but ones we may have needed all along.

Psychology calls this reframing: shifting perspective to uncover hidden meaning in moments that feel like failure. Detours remind us that resilience isn’t about controlling the route — it’s about adapting when the route changes.

Every blocked lane, every forced turn, is a chance to rewrite the map. Another way doesn’t mean the wrong way. It just means the story isn’t finished yet.

3 Another Way

Set for release via FatCat Records tomorrow, C Duncan’s highly anticipated third album sees the Scottish multi-instrumentalist ditch his bedroom studio and work with other producers, engineers and musicians for the first time. Warm and harmonically rich, Duncan delightfully juxtaposes the vibrant and wholesome aesthetic of the album with an often-darker lyrical undertone, pushing himself to refine and explore new ways of writing. As the sole protagonist of his self-carved niche, ‘Health’ sees Duncan evolve and expand its parameters in mesmerising fashion.

The album’s first single ‘Impossible’ was released in January, with Duncan combining strings and oddball psychedelic sounds. Next up, the title tracks syncopated piano rhythm and brooding vocal harmonies were reminiscent of the ‘The Midnight Sun’s’ soothing aural beauty. Last but by no means least, Duncan documents the trials of rebuilding fractured relationships on the rhythmic art-funk of new single ‘Talk Talk Talk.’ He had this to say on it:

“‘Talk Talk Talk’ about miscommunication. It’s about not realising that you’re actually on the same page as someone and how a misperception can drive you apart. However, it’s also about realising this and rebuilding bridges.”

Following the Mercury nominated debut ‘Architect’ (2015,) an it’s impressive follow up ‘The Midnight Sun’ (2016,) ‘Health’s’ soaring tapestries achieve what Duncan set out to. “With album 3 I wanted to take a more direct approach, adding even more layers but thematically and lyrically laid bare. Having someone else to bounce production ideas off was really eye-opening for me. In the past I had been very controlling about how everything would sound but ‘Health’ really showed me the benefit of working with others and made the whole process much less isolating,” he explains. Packed with fresh ideas and buzzing with invention, ‘Health’ combines syncopated art-pop piano rhythms with breezy, undulating heartbreak ballads executed with acute precision. As always Duncan has contributed all the artwork surrounding the release, and the colourful and natural aesthetic is reflected in the instrumentation and lyrics.

ONE BAND’S MISSION TO MAKE PIANO COOL AGAIN

“Sometimes” is the latest song from Australian duo, Imbibe. Brothers Tennyson and Holden Nobel create a classic pop sound, authentic and thoughtful.

"Sometimes" continues the band's revival of a retro piano pop sound that is revitalised 
and refreshed to place the band amongst their bedroom pop contemporaries. 
Positioned amongst the likes of Rex Orange County and Mac Demarco, Imbibe 
draw from a similar pool of influences but are separated by Tennyson Nobel's piano driven songwriting and the band's organic production.

The brothers have been sharing music together since they were kids, learning 
from their songwriter Dad. It was the start of a mad, musical immersion – Mozart one day, McCartney or Randy Newman the next. With a burning desire for new musical possibilities,  the brothers traded their backyard in  Byron Bay to a bedroom in Berlin in 2018. ‘Sometimes’ shows how far this journey has taken them.

Ultimately, it’s a song about the comfort that comes from accepting that life is full of ups and downs.

Pinkshinyultrablast, Russia’s premiere shoegaze export, have shared their epic and ethereal new single ‘Songs’.

With vocalist Lyubov moving to LA, the band were deeply immersed in exploring new ways of composing and collaborating from a distance long before it was enforced.

They tells us that "this one is kind of an oddball. I think when we recorded ‘Songs’ we weren’t really sure what to do with this 15-minute-long beast, or if we will ever get a chance to release it. For some reason, this B-side feels especially dear to all of us. Possibly because it encapsulates a certain time of us existing together as a band, a very specific moment. We’ve been living in different cities for over four years now, and I think what I miss the most about us all being in the same place is the ability to regularly spend time together in the same room, practice, and run ideas by one another — just communicate and figure stuff out, side by side. I went to a Terry Riley show last December and he was playing with his grandson Gyan. They were sitting on the opposite sides of a really wide stage, pretty far apart from one another, separated by this giant concert grand - playing, pausing, improvising - and just kind of secretly smiling at each other from across the hall. When I think of the time we worked on this song, I think of those kinds of smiles, you know. It feels like hearing back a long conversation you’ve had with a dear friend a while back. Maybe you don’t agree with everything you’ve said back then, but then it doesn’t even really matter, because you know you were just able to truly relate." 

Pinkshinyultrablast have amassed critical praise across the board since the release of their debut album ‘Everything Else Matters’ and follow-ups ‘Grandfeathered’ in 2016 and ‘Miserable Miracles’ in 2018.

On ‘Songs’ they deliver waves upon waves of expansive guitars to form a truly massive fusion of psychedelia and ambience that flows beautifully, awash with blissful synths and their trademark celestial vocals.

"Got My Back to the Wind" is based on a night out I had where I found myself at the casino till the late hours of the morning. I pieced together moments and characters from the night as inspiration for the song and based the narrative around a larger-than-life main protagonist - a sharp dressed, martini-drinking gambler with attitude, rolling with the big time players.⁣

The character finds himself winning effortlessly and thinking he can do no wrong. Draped in woman, with pockets full of money, and completely out of his mind, he eventually stumbles out of the casino in the early hours of the morning looking for the next adventure. ⁣
⁣
"Got My Back to the Wind" is the high before the hangover.
