Hearing and seeing DJ Phono play is something else. It’s makes for a totally unexpected experience for most people hearing Phono for the first time. Especially when they realize he’s part of the Diynamic label collective. SEKOIA Podcast #014 - DJ Phono

Having just released a brilliant new album called ‘Sailing Off The Grid’, synthesizer wizard Petar Dundov is back stronger than ever. Having mastered the art of the arp and the droning, slow-burning madness he’s so well known for, Petar is slowly becoming a legend of his own. Being asked to fill a prime time spot at this year’s edition of the unique Labyrinth festival in Japan, which is a pretty big deal when you know the organization’s arduous programming philosophy, confirmed his status once more. 

We witnessed the Croatian artist’s amazing gig at Studio 80, Amsterdam earlier this year and just had to ask him to contribute to the SEKOIA Podcast series. And so he did. With his philosophical take on music, taking not only the musical structures but the idea behind his music to other dimensions besides time and space, our expectations were high to say the least. Petar has delivered an intense podcast. An uptempo journey through crooked stabs, quirky arps, melancholical strings and hypnotic rhythm. You can feel his passion flowing through the very soundwaves of this recording. 

You often hear artists speak about taking their audiences on a journey with their track selection. Petar Dundov is one of the few actually able to achieve this kind of musical involvement. He’ll be playing Studio 80 again on the Thursday of this year’s ADE, go and see him. -FJ

From the beginning of SEKOIA, Fairmont has been one of the artists we've looked up to. To be able to share this podcast with you today feels like an honour. A podcast that appears to defy space, time and gravity, filled with filter twisted raps, biting synths, and basslines that not only ratter your bones but touch your very soul, Fairmont has delivered. 

Through the years, Jake 'Fairmont' Fairley, has delivered such high amounts of quality that these days, whenever you see something popping up that's got the name Fairmont on it, you can rest assured that it's good. From the legendary 'Gazebo' to the more recent 'Boa': it rocks. Taking it to his live performances, he puts the bar even higher, you'll know what we mean when you've attended one of his gigs.

Over 15 years ago up in Sweden, two young men started experimenting with deep, melody infused techno music. Not looking for fame or glory, but totally focussed on achieving altered stages of consciousness together with their audience, the duo was quickly recognised for their unique style and attitude. First touring the world as Son Kite, later as the well known Minilogue, it's hard find two artists who are more attuned to themselves, each other and their crowd as Marcus and Sebastian. &#13;

After touring and working together for so many years, being taken all over the world and having been part of so many special journeys and experiences, they thought it was time to explore new territories: their inner selves. This journey is one that someone has to make for themselves. As a result, Marcus and Sebastian have decided to put their cooperation as Minilogue on hold, indefinitely, for the time being. Both will be exploring their own inner selves, spiritually and musically. Both still being full on artists, they will be inviting their audiences along on the ride, exploring the depths of the psyche through trance inducing music, but from now on separately, Sebastian performing under his full name Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus choosing for his Nobody Home moniker.&#13;

Minilogue has been a big inspiration for years for everyone at SEKOIA, and the talk we had for our interview (also in DJMag NL) with them surpassed all our expectations of them having both feet on the ground but their heads up the clouds. These are artists that go beyond fame, beyond materialism. It's an honour to be able to host one of their last recordings as a duo, performed on new years day at Drift in Nijmegen.&#13;

“Things don’t tend to change from one moment to the next. It’s a slow and evolving process. You always need a starting point, or a certain frame. Within such a frame, one has total freedom to create whatever they want and you can also pick whatever frame you want (depending on the matters you get in touch with in daily life). Many people are inclined to praise a chosen frame when achieving something beautiful, but to me it’s all about the freedom a certain frame provides me with. And if such a frame is coloured in in its entirety, I don’t want to hold on to it. I’d rather start colouring within a new frame, to gain inspiration for newer and different frames. We're honouring another legend on board this month. It's the artist that made 'A Thousand Nights', 'Nightcolors' and so many other recognisable anthems and whether it's Time Warp or Studio 80, he'll rock the hell out of it. This month's SEKOIA Podcast is by Gregor Tresher. 

His sets often differ from his productions, that tend to be a bit more on the deeper side. Playing mostly prime time spots at his gigs, that doesn't really come as a surprise. SEKOIA Supports Soenda - Romyn

Another personal favorite is joining the ranks of contributors to the SEKOIA Podcast series. With every album more impressive than the last one, John Tejada’s prolific career has spanned over two decades and is ever on the rise. ‘On the rise’ can be interpreted in multiple ways, but for Tejada success is not measured in touring the most or playing the most gigs. The fact that he’s able to make a living out of making music does it all for him.

SEKOIA Podcast #023 - John Tejada

The first track we ever uploaded on the SEKOIA channel was a remix of an original by N'to. That was over two years ago, and now it's finally time to get the gifted French musician on board for a podcast. A new podcast series that's curated with the team from Buiten Westen, showcasing music of artists that are playing their festival on July 19th in the Westerpark, Amsterdam.

N'to will be playing the Pleinvrees stage, which always seems to be filled with French names, with Joris Delacroix and Worakls lined up as his colleagues for the day. It's interesting to see the shift every organisation is making musically recently, especially with Pleinvrees moving into more 'emo' territory and taking a step back from the poppy deep house we've come to know so well from them through the years. 

Not a bad move if we may say so. On the contrary: the whole line up seems really fresh and the switching up of some of the participating organisations makes it feel all new and shiny again. This is one of the quintessential festivals the city of Amsterdam has to offer, almost right in the center of town, and we're happy to be part of it. - FJ.

My Favorite Robot aren't afraid to pay homage to their influences, as evidenced by this podcast. The basis is formed by a nice foundation of deep techno, yet al the garnish is formed by some synthpop, african drum patterns and wavey disco.

My Favorite Robot tries to maintain the spontaneity of their DJ sets in their live performances, in accordance to their mission of ignoring borders and broadening the definition of electronic music in order to deliver it to as many music lovers as possible: “When we were rehearsing for our first live shows, Voytek suddenly started a spontaneous jam of Alice in Chain songs. Jared and James were completely surprised and thus decided to keep that in our live set.” - C.

This podcast is a live recording of Stimming at the ZilpZalp Festival in former East Germany. Wouldn't we rather have a tailor made podcast to put exclusively on our channel? In Stimming's case, the answer is no. His music is best enjoyed live, interacting with the audience's energy.

Allow us to introduce you to Vela Uniform, the creator of our 31st podcast. This might be the first time you consciously read his name, yet he has been one of the driving forces behind SEKOIA for the last couple of years. As a resident DJ and a constant help on the production side of our events, he is the flag bearer for the darker music we've shared in the past.

His podcast will attest to that. In his own words: "For people interested in how I play DJ-sets in front of a crowd: I would like to invite those people to look around on my social channels, since there's already a lot of my live material floating around. 

The approach of this mix is a bit different. This podcast is my opportunity to tell a musical story. Taking some of the more abstract techno, combining records together and blending them by mixing really slowly and taking my sweet time. When mixing, I blur lines between one record and the next. In this way, the mix is quite a long trip, following waves and - hopefully - sucking you into it deeply.

I didn't limit myself to a 60-minute time limit. I rather chose to let the music and its tides decide when and where it was the time to stop." - C.

SEKOIA Podcast #031 - Vela Uniform

For us, participating in the Together Boston Festival is something great. To showcase our love for deep, electronic house music around the world is what we love, and to connect with so many of you is truly a joy witnessing. 

We've looked closely at what artists would be a good reflection of our Dutch scene and who fitted in with the Together Festival. Among those is Tom Trago. A household name in our lands, and a spokesman at the frontier of house music. Tom is known here for his infamous nights at Trouw Amsterdam, his label Voyage Direct and recently his booking agency, Voyage Select, as well. A busy man as you can imagine, and we're very happy to have him aboard. 

For the occasion of our first abroad event, and the start of his US tour he put together a mix, showing his vision on quality house music. Over the years a great deal of artists have already done us the honor of contributing to our podcast series, and we’re very happy to have him aboard as well! Live At SEKOIA - Florinsz Janvier & Cursed P [Together - Boston | 13-05-15]

When asking Timoka how he would describe his music he reacted very on point: “Well, it's music above all. Sometimes it is quite hard to tell if something is really music or just sound design or plain, unorganized noise. Therefore I choose to not describe my music. That's luckily not my concern, but for the people listening to it and reviewing it."

Often it is indeed hard to distinguish music from sound, where both things can be interpreted differently, depending on your background and your definition of what music is. It is an interesting discussion, because there is absolutely no winner or loser in it. Timoka's sound is indeed hard to describe. It varies from techno to ambient, from warm to industrial, and from organic to straight forward. We've asked him to partake in our podcast series, because disregarding his undefinability, his music stands alone in beauty and he is capable of telling emotional stories with sounds you wouldn't associate with that storytelling capability. SEKOIA Podcast #034 - Timoka

"There was a time that I hated techno, because it was too functional, lazy, non-creative and without any imagination in my eyes. Thanks to labels as Minimal Wave/Cititrax, L.I.E.S., Hotflush and Phantasy, to name a few, techno got its soul back again. These recent discoveries have made me enthusiastic about techno all over again, and that’s what I hope you’ll hear as well."

Reza Athar is a name that has been snapping the necks of the club elite for quite some time now, so it seems. However, his quick rise actually started just over a year ago. Starting with his Horizon concept, in which he invites artists that needed to be introduced in Holland, he quickly got recognized for his diverse style and infectious DJ sets. Reza's style is very diverse. He can dive into some italo, head over to post 80’s house and head on to techno, and he can do all of this in under ten minutes. The unique aspect about all of this, is that even though his love for music crosses many genre borders, he is always on point with telling his story, and blending all his records into a single piece of music.

In this 90 minute podcast he will showcase his recent developments, and live up to the name of being a true story teller. Enjoy!

SEKOIA Podcast #036 - Will Oirson

Two scientists, Olek Smev and Rurik Tamm shacked up together for fifteen years observing the planet saturn. They sent out audio static radiations to find out if there's any possibility of a reply. 14 years later, an answer came. The data received was coded into music. Sirens Of Saturn's description of themselves gives some insight in how these guys look at making music. Binary codes, space vortexes and analog sequences is their recipe, and they take steps in evolutionary style: well thought off. Naming space as their musical territory, it won't surprise you that SEKOIA and the Sirens of Saturn have felt a deep connection from the get go. 

Back from one of their exploratory trips to the outer rims of our universe, the Sirens have documented their travels. Capturing the stellar vibrations caught around the rings of Saturn, this recording proves once more that the two scientists are on the right path. Explaining their auditory discoveries at the recent edition of Stekker in the Tunnel*, the sounds from outer space were projected upon an unsuspecting audience. With decent amounts of hallucinogenic substances devoured by the crowd, it's safe to say there were multiple trips made trough time and space that night, propelled by the live generated waves of Rurik and his colleague. Developing a healthy friendship through the years and spanning multiple monikers, Aron Friedman and Eric The Man have both left their mark on the scene separately. But when combining their strengths, their real power comes to shine: years of experience, experimenting and life in general have formed them into something else, defying the boundaries of space and time. SEKOIA Podcast #038 - Spaceandtime

In light of our recent announcement regarding our closing, we promised you to keep on posting music as normal. The thing with rounding up and setting everything straight is, although it's sad, it also gives you the possibility to praise those who deserve to be praised. 

Florinsz Janvier is, and has been, one of the driving forces behind SEKOIA and his place in our podcast gallery feels like a natural thing. His devotion and dedication towards the channel has been unprecedented and along with SEKOIA, Florinsz has also grown into his role as a DJ.

SEKOIA’s typical sound originated for a big part from his mind, as our channel and his music collecting urge form a harmonious symbiosis. But not everything that Florinsz finds makes its way on to SEKOIA, and not everything SEKOIA posts is Florinsz's cup of tea (he doesn't drink coffee... go figure).

We're pleased to have him on podcast duties to showcase his personal take on melancholic and deep electronic music. The musical growth that Florinsz went through, and his unique asset of combining ethereal melodies with dance ready grooves is laid out before you in our 39th podcast. SEKOIA Podcast #039 - Florinsz Janvier


After an intimate closing party with friends and family in Amsterdam last Friday, it’s time to salute you and everyone else that has been following us online. A sign of gratitude. One last present. Our musical testament.

As a final endeavour, we asked all SEKOIA team members to select 5 tracks that have stuck with them through the years. Tunes that fully embody the SEKOIA sound, songs with special stories and music that would directly take them back to special moments experienced in the last four years. 

During a rainy January afternoon, Will Oirson, Florinsz Janvier and Vela Uniform got together in the studio and mixed all these tracks into one, massive 5 hour recording. Our final podcast and our last gift to you. Lots of recognisable tracks, a collection of classics. Songs that will stick with us for the rest of our lives. A podcast with different chapters. There’s something in here for everyone. Please enjoy it as much as we did creating it!

SEKOIA Podcast #040 - SEKOIA Family

Welcome to the SEKOIA Soundcloud page! We're very happy to present to you the first edition of our new monthly podcast! This podcast will focus on upcoming artist that fits the SEKOIA sound, giving them a stage to showcase their unique talents. 

First off, it's our good friend Rachelle Grooten on mixing duties for this first podcast. She brings us 45 minutes of the quality stuff we've gotten to know from her. Inspired by the tracks already found in the SEKOIA YouTube channel she added some of her own spice in making this wonderful set. The result is this dark but uplifting, spine tingling, emotionally tinted podcast, just the way we like it.

SEKOIA Podcast #005 - PONY

From last months podcast, that was slow, cool and mainly instrumental (but brilliant!), to this one that's also slow, but warm and soul full. Roberto Calzetta &amp; Twin Soul have been redefining the notion of 'sexy' with their music. Deephouse at it's purest form. Bass lines, percussion, vocals. Lots of vocals. Normally we're not that big on them 'cause most of the time we think they degrade the rest of the track. Not in this podcast, Roberto and his companion picked out the tunes that somehow don't have this effect on us. Maybe it's the quality of execution, but we like it either way. Warm up your december and save the planet: this podcast is so hot, you don't even have to turn on your heating!&#13;

Time for a very special podcast this month, with two very special ‘firsts’! It’s our first podcast featuring an international act and the first edition in our collaboration with the dutch edition of DJ Mag﻿. Which means that we’ll have a whole interview with our podcasters, printed in the magazine and available in shops tomorrow! In about two weeks we’ll be able to post it online, so don’t worry if you don’t read any dutch ;).

‘Sonnenblut am Platz der Perlen’ by Dürerstuben is one of those summery tracks that is still close to our hearts. Ever since that track was released, we’ve kept an eye on the German guys, always interested in their next step. With their extravagant live set, totally renewed every year, keep their sound interesting both to themselves and the audience.
