Multi Culti are proud to present the debut EP from Sao Paolo's Voodoohop resident, Thomash.

DJ Thomash has set up one of the most influential nights in the bazooming Brazilian scene with his Voodoohop party, a fusion of tropical hedonism and avant-garde trance-inducing European electronic music, a lively mix that no doubt has its genesis in his transplanted German roots (he's from Cologne aka Kompakt-ville). He's shared the stage with guys like Rebolledo, Joakim, Acid Pauli and more, and now finally looks to colonize the world with his first release.

Interestingly, Thomash has a degree in artificial intelligence, so while it might just be our imagination, it does seem that the rhythms, full of oddly tuned percussion and colorful synth stabs seem imbued with a distinct internal logic, playful forms that bounce off each other in their own reality, according to their own laws. This narrative of the ethnoid, German-Brazilian AI ties in nicely with the title: Candomble is the name of an Afro-Brazilian religion, meaning literally 'dance in honour of the gods.' Fortunately for us, Thomash seems to be honouring some scarcely acknowledged, far-out deities... spritely DMT-elves. Ectoplasma further plays into this reading, both in title and in vibe, floating unconcerned with material dancefloor goals into a space of peaceful imagination and spirit. Finally, Calango Fumando Palha is a soft, dreamy morning peyote-fire anthem… a healing latin lullaby to soothe troubles and set positive vibes free.

Called in to take us deeper into the trip are Multi Culti's go-to sooth-sayers DREEMS, who lead us forwards in full-chakra-alignment with the originals, bringing bigger bass into the heart of the jungle, tripping on acid, leaving us loose-limbed, wide-eyed, and open-minded in bliss as the final chords tuck us in and kiss us goodnight. Sweet Dreems!

"On his visit to Kinshasa James Brown dubbed him *Mister Dynamite*"  

It has been a struggle to lay hands on Verckys, although the man doesn´t go unnoticed. Notorious for being one of Congo´s most ruthless business men, the legendary musician had build a whole imperium in Kinshasa, the capital city of the central african power house (arguably one of the toughest places in the world) and has a whole building with his name, in the very heart of the city.

So I travelled to the Congo in June of 2013 to find Verckys only to find out that he headed in opposite direction to sort out his health issues. But I did meet his manager who gave me his phone number, so I called:  "Oh Monsieur Samy, we need to met, lets talk business", he said, probably not knowing that I was an independent record label, with all it represents.  But the more I spoke to the men the more I realised that he was genuinely interested in music more then anything else. The following message I received few weeks ago, confirmed my feeling:

"Samy, I am writing to you because I´m a little worried. I´ve been thinking about your selection and I now wonder if your compilation will do well due to the fact that the chosen songs had little impact in Kinshasa. Others had much more success"

I was surprised but pleased to see that he cared about the project although I had already paid him in full. But why wouldn't he? Its his music after all.

"Most of the songs you´ve selected were recorded in Nairobi, for the Kenyan market. These songs did very well there, also in Zambia, but here in the Congo they flopped...except for "Ya Nini", that was a monster hit. Still, I am very surprised you´ve mentioned it has become a legendary track in Colombia, positively surprised"

This compilation was supposed to be released in October as a limited edition of 2000 copies, but after a few Skype chats with Verckys, seeing that he has come to terms with his health issues, and pushing for a European tour come next summer, we´ve decided to release this as Analog Africa No.17 which is now going to see light of day first week of December. 

In the mean time enjoy this incredible slice of "Congolese AfroFunk", probably one of the best coming out of the continent. "Cheka Sana" has become one of the most sought after 7inch singles around (the B side is killer as well). Collectors and diggers offering crazy sums for it (I don't even dare to mention the sum here). It deserves to be heard by more then just a handful....and it should set fire to many dancefloors around the globe.

Bassala Hot - Verckys et l´Orchestre Vévé

June 23rd marks the arrival of the long-awaited proper reissue of Amara Toure’s groundbreaking Afro-latin studio works captured between 1973 and 1980. Analog Africa has prepared a special gatefold double LP version on 140g vinyl, encompassing the three singles he recorded under the Black and White ensemble between 1973 and 1976 along with the highly coveted Orchestre Massako group’s stunning 1980 LP Accompagné Par L’Orchestre Massako. This is the entire known works of the mystic composer and it is stated in the press that after he recorded Accompagné Par L’Orchestre Massako, he would never been seen again and his whereabouts are unknown to this day. Breaking ground out of the rich legacy and musician development system Dakar, Senegal, producer Ibra Kasseì created, the origins of Ibra’s movement begins in the late ’50s when fusion music around the world was beginning to stretch outside of sketch forms. Cuban styles of son montuno and patchanga were infused with local folk traditions and modern instrumentation of each successive generation, producing a hybrid of West African and Caribbean music that is intoxicating and hypnotic in every rhythm, harmony and overtone. Senegal was buzzing with new creativity through the ’60s and beyond, met with an array of highly advanced musicians and visionaries. Nightlife music for those that wanted something beyond the radio hits and presented with a passionate essence that connected many people in the region of the time.

Amara Toure was brought up in a progressive movement unlike any other and by the time he was able to head his own groups and record his own content from the experience he gained networking with Ibra Kassei, African music had finally hit a global scale. When you open up the lid on the musicians who never made it outside of the regions known for strong music activity, an overwhelming list of artists come up and there is no question that Amara Toure ranks amongst the top of these creators. Originally from Guinea-Conakry, Amara Toure remained underground and raw during his tenure producing records, creating some of the most earth-shattering grooves and harmonies from any West African artist ever. To have his works in one album from the exceptional team at Analog Africa is a dream come true, updating pre-existing copies of originals that run in the triple digit numbers amongst hardcore collectors and doing a great job at preserving the analog warmth of the originals. The singles material was recorded in Cameroon while the 1980 content was done in Libreville, Gabon. Absolutely breathtaking guitar, percussion and horn heavy music that is timeless without question. For the vinyl junkies, this one has been pressed on deluxe gatefold double LP as a 140-gram vinyl and is presented in four-color screenprinted covers and also comes with a screenprinted poster. Limited edition to 1,500 copies, so order now if you want to secure a vinyl copy as these will surely run out quickly. Analog Africa does various reprints on back catalog titles out of print but these are never announced ahead of time. One can only hope they will run multiple campaigns for these prints as this music is too good for words.

Populous is Andrea Mangia, a producer hailing from Lecce, a small city on the heel of Italy's boot. In 2003, he made his first jaunt into the music world with the album Quipo (via Morr Music). In 2005 he released Queue For Love, influenced by his reggae/hip-hop-infused surroundings (Lecce is known as Italy's Jamaica, as reggae and dancehall are extremely popular there) and in 2008 he released Drawn in Basic. Both albums were widely received by international critics, earning him a spot on the global music map. He became known for the way he seamlessly blends digital sounds with the analog warmth of soul/hip-hop/whatever else he's influenced by at the time.

Azulejos, his forthcoming release, has a South American tinge to it (and is even partly in Spanish). He moved to Lisbon, Portugal to start work on the album bringing with him only a laptop, a small MIDI keyboard, and a microphone. "Lisbon became both my studio and my muse," he says. He wandered the city collecting field recordings— from trams to people singing on street corners. He sifted through flea markets for records to use for sampling (exclusively Portuguese and South American). Populous describes Lisbon as a city 'halfway between South American soul and European modernity, African in some aspects, and dramatically melancholic." He channeled these poignant fusions into Azulejos, named for the typical tiled facades in Portugal— simultaneously bright and decaying. The album features collaborations with Nina Miranda of Smoke City and Ela Minus, among others. It's a love letter to Lisbon, and a dreamy quilt of sounds he both grew up with and heard for the first time during his influential stay in Portugal.

Nakupenda is Boddhi’s brand new collaboration with Tanzania’s own Azma Mponda. Azma Mponda is a Hip-Hop Artist from and based in Dar-es-Salaam and his career started 9 years ago. Being both part of the Group « Tamaduni Music » and a solo artist with several hits to his name and being the first Tanzanian Hip-Hop artist to reach a million views in 2013, Azma’s growing popularity in Tanzania and in East Africa is undisputed. 

« Nakupenda » which is the Swahili word for « I love you » in English is an Ancestral Soul take on Afro Beats and a first for Boddhi who together with Azma have gone out of their respective comfort zones to deliver a strong song that surely will find positive feedback both from there respective musical families and Beyond.  
The cover art designed by Mexico’s own Yazmin Huerta is also the fruit of a splendid collaboration effort with internationally acclaimed Congolese/Lebanese/British model Samar Khoury who has accepted to once again be the face of the cover.

After his stunning remix for Tunisian world music duo YUMA, that occupied the Beatport charts for months, Rey&Kjavik delivers a smart remix package for his exclusive BAR25 tune „Mamukte“: Chilean Rodrigo Gallardo comes up with a more than deep and sophisticated version that proves that he ́s with good reason one oft he most hyped acts in the genre after his releases on Sabo’s Sol Selectas and Nickodemus’ Wonderwheel Records. The EP includes more mixes by Niju and Argentinian duo Las Cabra (in company with Sascha Cawa) that complete the picture of Rey & Kjavik’s sound.

Su objetivo es generar simbiosis creativas junto a los músicos locales, que promuevan el brote de nuevos sonidos, ideas y proyectos dentro de las comunidades musicales en las que interviene. 

La Alianza Francesa de Valledupar, la Fundación Universitaria del Área Andina y jóvenes músicos de Valledupar, junto al colectivo de productores Portafónico, son los artífices de esta primera producción.
