We are excited to premiere the ethereal electronic grooves of "Mahi Mahi" by Moonfish, the duo project of pianist & composer Maria Chiara Argirò and drummer, pianist & composer Ricardo Chiaberta.

For Moonfish, Maria and Ricardo combines piano, keyboards and synths with drums, bass synth and electronics. Both musicians are an integral part of the London jazz and electronic community, appearing and recording individually with artists such as Rosie Turton, Kinkajous, Liran Donin, Bruno Heinen, Kettle of Kites and These New Puritans.

A lush dialogue between synths and drums/bass synth, their third single features a mesmeric melody underpinned by layers of ethereal electronics and a solid, beat-driven groove. Drawing on mutual influences including Kneebody, Aaron Parks and Thom Yorke, this single is the last in a series of three singles from the duo, offering a new perspective on the piano/synths and drums duo. 

"Mahi Mahi" draws on both jazz and electronic influences to create an dreamy and mesmerising soundscape and an infectious groove. The key to this duo's sound is their ability to apply a sophisticated musical understanding and ability to bear on a beat-driven electronic project, without losing the power of the groove to any temptations to noodle.

Comprised of four recordings/jams between @priori-ties (the mastermind behind the project), @ex-terrestrial, and Emmanuel Thibau, and with appearances by @ramzihouti and @richardwenger, Osmos (Movements) is a sincere foray into a forth-world fantasy, where disparate synthesizer styles are tied together by Emmanuel Thibau’s harmonized saxophone musings. 

These multi-stream compositions float in those uncertain spaces between electronic and acoustic, improvisation and production, old and new. It’s these uncertain spaces we’ve grown to love, and hopefully you’ll have as much trouble describing this record as we have, because that’s what it’s all about.

Asa Tone is Jakarta-born Melati Malay and New York based Tristan Arp and Kaazi. In January 2018 the trio travelled to Indonesia during Melati’s annual return home, set up a temporary studio in a house nestled in the jungle’s canopy and recorded a series of improvisational pieces together, later edited for brevity. The music incorporates both digital and analogue processing and largely draws upon the groups collective voice, a small selection of instrumentation (Rindik, Moog Sub 37, Infinite Jets, Suling) and their immediate environment. Despite this, they aimed to record a kind of music together that doesn’t seem to come from one specific place, but instead, from everywhere.

The result is an idiosyncratic voyage of equatorial excursions in voice, mallets and synthesis, both transportative and fluid, yet firmly grounded in the earth. Cyclical, randomized patterns grow and blossom during these often delicate and heartfelt renderings, staying with the listener long after both sides fall silent.

Temporary Music LP will be released on January 31 2020 on Leaving Records. It is the group’s debut album.

New school kosmiche style guitar and synth studies by Baltimore native and veteran underground music figure Tarotplane (PJ Dorsey). Across four cold, motorik movements Dorsey builds upon previous outings for Aguirre, Lullabies For Insomniacs and VG+ on the discs A side, combining trademark lysergic keyboard swirls with a heavier rhythmic approach than usual. On the B, he delivers an extended swan song for 12th Isle's single figure catalog and aims his guitar towards the heart of the sun, kick-starting the labels busiest year to date.
