Welcome to a new episode of RFRadio. Kouncil Cuts is an independent record label created by Inverness artist Mark Mackenzie established in 2019.

The opportunity to create the label came in 2019. After being made redundant in his job as result of national austerity and budget cuts, Mark used his insolvency pay to press the labels first record. The situation inspired the name, Kouncil Cuts (with the 'K' for legal reasons!).

The first release - the 'Homegrown VA' - featured four emerging Highland artists. It went on to gather support from some of the worlds most renowned DJs such as The Blessed Madonna, Leftfield and Giles Peterson. UK Bass Music described it as 'one of the best releases of the year'. 

Since then the label has grown strength to strength, with further EP releases from artists Stones Taro, BufoBufo, J Wax, Corbi and Gowans, and with many more featuring on the labels VA series 'Community Cuts'. Regular fans of the label's releases have included the likes of Skream, Sherelle, Dusky, Maceo Plex and Shadow Child, among many others.

We are happy to welcome our talented buddy Fufi.SNC on the label. Hailing from Ingolstadt, a city one hour away from Munich, Fufi is no stranger to the scene and was on our radar for quite some time now. He is one third of the ever amazing SNC crew, a party and label collective, and has been impressing us with his breakbeat-heavy analog live sets over the past years. After his debut EP on Marlon Hoffstadt’s „Savour The Moment“ label in 2020 he joins the Slam City Jams family with the „Monsterra Mansion“ EP.

We are starting things off with „Back Strike“, a breakbeat monster full of irresistible rave stabs, heavy sub bass and a beautiful crying acid line. Next up you find the hidden hit of this EP: „Raves On Sundays“ featuring the mysterious DJ Kolibri. A tune full of tension, that keeps on building up with a dramatic 303 melody you won’t get out of your head for some time. On the flip we have „Running Home“ - a super deep acid breakbeat affair for the late hours (even though this probably means 10pm these days). Finally the EP is rounded off by the title track: „Monsterra Mansion“ is a stripped back up-tempo four to the floor jam, with a grooving bass and dreamy chords that fans of Roza Terenzi will love. Fufi.SNC treats us with four dope tunes written in times of isolation, but made for days were we all meet again on the floor.

Where did you record this mix and what did you have in mind while recording it?
"I recorded this mix at home in South London. I wanted to do something that had a lot of energy. Coming out of the pandemic a lot of people are sitting on pent up energy which will hopefully turn into a release on the dancefloor."

How would you describe your sound in general?
"The New Dance Show."

What are you looking forward to the most this year?
"Releasing new music."
