Art Imitating Life

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with sub-genres including House, Tech House, Deep House, Hip House, Minimal, UKG, Breaks, as well as a small amount of Electronica.Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its twelfth year Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.

DJ Three has been tirelessly holding the flag for underground electronic music in the US since his rise out of the sunny state of Florida in the early 90’s. In that time, he’s emerged as one of the brightest DJ talents from the US and continues to be a true inspiration around the globe.  Three's tour dates show both diversity in audience and a genre-bending passion for good music.  He’s held residencies at New York City's Twilo, Cielo (Robots), Love, Blk Market Membership and Output in Brooklyn, as well as Florida’s legendary Simons in the 90’s, Snatch in Tampa in the 00’s and The Electric Pickle in Miami all while playing lauded guest spots at San Francisco’s Wicked, Sublevel in Los Angeles, fabric London, Panorama Bar, DC10, Club Eleven in Tokyo and forward thinking festivals like Labyrinth Festival (Japan), Sunset Campout (USA), Day Zero (Mexico), Rainbow Serpent Festival (Australia) and Houghton Festival (UK).

From 2009 on, Rampa made a name of himself through Keinemusik, his own little d.i.y.-cosmos, being not only label, but also crew of likeminded DJs, producers and friends. The teamwork within this realm has seen a serious number of productions and collaborations, particularly with fellow producer &ME, not to forget the rest of the bunch, Adam Port, Reznik and Monja. 

Besides, he’s got an array of other collaborations and releases under his belt, put out on imprints like Circoloco, Innervisions, Diynamic, Afterlife, Cocoon, Ninja Tunes / Counter Records, Strictly Rhythm, Kompakt, 2020 Vision, Freerange, Bpitch Control, Defected or Crosstown Rebels.

The events of the last few years have seen Rampa focussing more and more on the production side of things, be it studio time or the inauguration of the TEILE project – his own company to produce and distribute analogue effects, custom built for DJ-purposes. Certainly also an outlet for a slight nerdism, that includes not only studio gear, but instruments in general. When it comes to DJing itself, he is going for a less is more approach these days, choosing bookings and playing more consciously.
