This Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the release of Depeche Mode's landmark 'Violator' album, and it's also the anniversary of the band's infamous in-store at a Wherehouse record store in Los Angeles. To mark the occasion, here is about 7 minutes of KROQ's broadcast that night, featuring Richard Blade interviewing the members of the band about the album and their touring plans.  This was recorded off the radio on a TDK D-90 cassette and stored in a Vans shoebox for the subsequent 25 years.

How THE OXFORD REVIEW germinated in the humblest of beginnings...

Long ago there was a frog - rather, a community of frogs, and they infiltrated the dreams of 2 separate but equally terrified children by using their amphbi-magick. Not only that, but when the children awoke, the frogs, through their hypnogogic powers of invisibility, would remain active and tactile whilst causing the children's parents to indicate (with a flourishing removal of the bed covers) that there was nothing there. But they WERE there, and this terror spawned a singular creativity /skewed perception of the physics of fauna for the aforementioned children. 
They had only to meet, years later, to recognise the mutual magickal experience between them. The collective unconsciousness and the residue of said experience was the catalyst necessary to loosen a floodgate of music and sync so glorious that is almost bittersweet, if not for the intervention of muses, similar in size and shape to the childhood frogs (curiously enough), who declared that the music is not bittersweet, but kismetic and karmic.

Slicing Up Eyeballs explores the legacy of '80s college, modern and indie rock, the music — once relegated to campus radio, pioneering commercial stations like San Diego's 91X and the Sunday night ghetto of MTV's "120 Minutes" — that paved the way for Nirvana and the alternative revolution.

When Marko Farion was an undergraduate at CWRU (1980-1984) in Cleveland, he was involved with WRUW 91.1 FM, the University's radio station, as a public affairs programmer, disc jockey and Program Director.  He started as a representative of the Ukranian Student Organization hosting the public affairs program "Free Ukraine" and then began to DJ the 2 hour time slot before "F.U.", a show he named "Pree Ukraine" -  featuring new music - which today is termed Big/Retro 80's or New/1st Wave music.
