'Time flies' as the saying goes and indeed it has as Quintessentials celebrates its 10 year anniversary. For a decade this mighty label has been getting some true love and support from all quarters. Listening to the back catalogue now, most of the tunes still sound fresh and keep the label's famous “deep, raw and real” motto alive.

Quintessentials has always been a platform for new talents as well as established artists, and with he likes of Anton Zap, Vakula, Baaz, The Zohar, MCDE, Nicolas, Ugly Drums, Toby Tobias, Borrowed Identity, Mat Chiavaroli, 4004, Soul of Hex, S3A, Loz Goddard, Felipe Gordon, Javonntte……to name but a few, it’s an enviable back catalogue.

This “Ten Years Quintessentials” compilation offers a wide range of styles: Detroit inspired Techno and House, a ruff Chicago stomper, some proper deep House, a discoish tool, and crafty beats and basslines all over! Rough Sketches’ is a continuous journey through a typical session between Warren Xclnce and Reiss G. The London based duo have been collaborating for the best part of two years progressing their sound design from hard hitting beat-work to down-tempo and experimental electronica. 

This project sees both their influences and styles amalgamated into a 25 min uninterrupted continuous–play session which began as a drafted beat tape but has since developed into something more unique featuring world recordings, local inspiration, vocal features and elaborate sound design. 

Reiss and Warren are currently undergoing a creative transition as a collaborative entity so expect a few projects in the near future as they develop their sound and both continue to work on their own respective solo projects.

With the stamp of a approval from Ashong himself, Aisha laid down vocals over a beat from Leeds producer Liston with the reimagined ode cover of Flowers presented alongside two quite incredible reworks. It's no secret that Bicep have been at the top of their game of late and that's not showing any signs of changing. We were lucky enough to catch the duo play all-night-long at Good Room in NYC and when they dropped their Pooley remix, that's when we saw it really work its magic.

Glitzy chord stabs are set against a thick and chunky bassline while the percussion scuttles along in the background and although it's more reserved than their recent output, it goes down in the rave and still keeps that textbook Pooley feel intact.

Third Attempt is Torje Fagertun Spilde, a 20 year old artist and DJ originally from Asker, just outside of Oslo. Now established in Tromsø , Norway, he is one of the young forces in the rising new generation of electronic producers from the birthplace of the Northern Disco Groove.
