A sublime night at Generator Lights Of Gracia, where we celebrated the carnival in Barcelona. What I loved about this party was not just the painted faces with stars, the masks and beautiful costumes, but also that the people left their phones and just enjoyed dancing and dreaming until the very last track. I hope it will have the same effect on those who will be listening to this recorded live set. Enjoy !

This edition of our MIXED BY/ series is brought to you by not one but two Bolting Bits regulars, New York's Baltra and London's Fede Lng. Both artists have had a breakout couple of years finding their places, either by design or by serendipity, as frontrunners in the lo-fi movement. Below, you'll find some extra info on each artist and an interview with Axe on Wax bossman, Fede Lng.

Fede Lng has carved out a coveted spot as both curator and creator in the dusty depths of London's music scene. Since their inception in 2014, Axe on Wax and its sub-labels have gone on to see releases from a who's who list of recent stars including Mall Grab, Chaos in The CBD, Trudge, Deejay Astral, and Jesse Bru. With a penchant for rough and raw tracks chock-full of equal parts grit, dust, and feeling, Lng has found himself in the middle of a musical movement that shows no signs of slowing down and continues to defy expectations.

Across the Atlantic, New York's Baltra has been not so quietly making a name for himself with great self-releases and stand out EPs on labels such as Lost Palms and Of Paradise, the Philidelphia-born artist's music has served as a gateway drug for many of lo-fi's biggest proponents. And while his aesthetic blends seamlessly into what we've come to expect from the scene, the emotions contained within the music easily transcend the genre or any doubts about its staying power.

Search as one might for an adequate charm to safely light 'Red Dragon,' Cæcilie Trier's evocations tend to outpace us at every step. The album's fever-dream story flicks through the recent past and the present. Elon Musk's extraplanetary desires cross with maternal notes. Michael Jackson, too, is watched over.

The terse titles that greet us in Trier's solo work are a wry sleight of hand. CTM, standing for Cæcilie Trier Musik, marks the impersonal boundary where intimacies are developed, trampled, and searched through. On her new album for Posh Isolation, produced with Asger Hartvig, aka MC Boli of Boli Group, the drama is composed and enduring, like a plot twist that lasts a life time.

Trier is a Copenhagen based cellist, singer, and composer, with her classical training apparent across her many and varied projects and collaborations. Having received critical acclaim from the earliest moments of her career, Trier's previous album 'Suite For A Young Girl' was nominated for the prestigious Nordic Music Prize in 2017.

'Red Dragon' keeps Trier's voice central to the affairs. The instrumentation wades in and out of focus from stage right and left. And as often as we are caught in the songwriting’s pirouettes and glances around the vocals, the splintering effect of the production impresses an inhuman déjà vu with regularity. This is especially felt in the electronics, sound bites, and digital ephemera that dress the songs. The bareness of the strings and guitars act as a peculiar balance, keeping us close just as we get a sense of the distance from which we are permitted a view.

'Red Dragon' features appearances from Coco O, Frederikke Hoffmeier (Puce Mary), Soho Rezanejad, and Dawda Jobarteh.

After dropping well-received EPs on labels like Clone, Technicolour, Let’s Play House, Club Lonely, Spring Theory, Magicwire and his own SOBO imprint in recent years, anticipation has been running high for a new Project Pablo full-length. However, few fans of the Montreal-based producer likely expected 'Come to Canada You Will Like It,' a chill and somewhat introspective LP that's set for release on June 22 via Verdicchio Music Publishing, another new label headed up by Project Pablo himself. The 'Explorations 06' release, which also includes tracks by Xinobi, Yunus Güvenen, Ole Biege, Ceas and Westseven, is due out August 24.

Italian pairing Ruff Stuff have been living quite a charmed existence of late. Known individually as Nanni & Francois, this house-loving pair have rocked up on a host of well-renowned labels, including Berlin Bass Collective, Neovinyl, Quality Vibe and King Street Sounds. However, it’s their work on their own label, the aptly names Ruff Stuff Music Ltd, for which they’re arguably best renowned. 
This mix showcases their signature house sound, and also further illustrates what rude health Italian house producers are currently in.... may also have something to do with living in Berlin of course.
