Insomniac Event's second big production, following the success of its one-year anniversary party the year before, was an exciting event. Mojo, one of the early Insomniac residents, provides a throwback vinyl mix to give a taste of the sounds one would have heard that evening. "Pink Floyd has played a huge role in both our lives. It's been opening our eyes to some of the absurdities of modern society, but also helped overcome the resignation that comes with it. Pink Floyd also helped go through difficult times and all albums had a different impact: Wether it was 'The Wall', 'Animals', or 'The Piper at The Gates of Dawn'... We felt the necessity to give something back and do it right, taking our time and showing respect to such masterpieces.

This tribute project started in 2014 when Mynox was producing on his own in Montreal. 2 minutes were arranged but the project got dropped for 3 years. In 2017, while sorting old Ableton files and samples, we decided to take this one project, dust it off and finalize it in our own esthetics.

Working on Pink Floyd material is both easy and extremely challenging. Easy because the musicality and quality of the samples is remarkable and difficult because one wants to stay true to the original and show some respect to this unique band that has been influencing the world for decades.

The song has two parts that try to achieve different things. The first one is close to the original, following vocals and the arrangement that is to be found on The Wall (Part II of the original).

A bridge helps transition into a more chaotic, psychedelic second part in which we took some freedom and created a deeper atmosphere. The goal was to build everything from scratch while keeping a reference to the original with the processed hypnotic vocals. This part originally featured an original guitar solo (actually two...) but we decided to take them off and keep the solos for the live renditions. We hope you enjoy and thank you for your long time support!

One fine day in the middle of May, MTG Primate Crooked Sounds was chilling with a banana, listening to the sounds of the Jungle when the idea hit him! The MTG needs to branch out into some Drum n Bass!! He gobbled the rest of his 'naana, busted out some kick ass dnb, threw it at Bulla's feet and said, "have a go at this!!" Bulla took up the challenge and brought some dirty, low slung vibes to the mix then threw it over to Linda B who chucked in some cheeky dirty sounds. Professor Prim8 heard the call and finished it off with some typical nastiness and thus the mix was born. MTGnB are proud to present our first DnB mix, Drum 'N' Apes! Enjoy!

We're taking you deep into a realm where the warmth and humanity of dub meets the cold, precise, mechanistic impulses of techno. A record like the seminal remix of "Starlight" by Model 500 (AKA Juan Atkins) is a perfect example of the power of spatiality: every element in the mix is given breathing space and, accordingly, takes on a sense of the organic. It's a work of architectural, structural, and musical genius. It's a fitting name and a perfect end to our brief insight into a world that drips with sonic richness. Pretty much every good dub techno record ever made has a similar framework like "Twelve Miles High" by Burger/Ink. Those records, and a hundred more like them, ride and roll on the kind of blissed out chord patterns that could repeat into infinity.  These are the roots of dub techno, the vast majority of tracks on this mix were made before 2000!

One thing that’s clear when you step into the dub techno community is how friendly and giving everyone is. Björn aka pjontec is definitely one of those people. He was very encouraging and supportive of my Journey through Ambient Dub Techno mix series, particularly part 7, and I was happy to make this mix for him. Part 7 featured the heavier, dubbier sounds of dub techno. Björn asked if I could make a mix for his channel similar to that. The rawer and grittier, the better. I dug into my collection for as many dubby tracks I could find. This mix starts gentle and progressively gets grittier and dubbier to the very end. Enjoy my friends!
