Oh my......This composition is really something special, Jo. any adjective I might speak, would be an understatement. This poem, a beautiful Metaphor that leaves no doubt, and the music of thepullofthe past is really wonderful. A stunning effort!!

Also using Soundtoys EffectRack on the West African Ngoni (typ of string instrument) and some Spectrosonics Omnisphere goodness.
the Drums are created with the Drumdesigner included in Logic Pro x, so the beat is created by A.I. I couldn't resist and also added a drum loop and some vocal snippets.

Method: Once again, The Pull of the Past (https://soundcloud.com/thepullofthepast) showed kindness in allowing me to integrate one of his compositions into a poetry soundscape. Narration: This soundscape uses noise, music, voice and a field recording to create dense space and to narrow in on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misophonia . A few days ago, I was recording a brook in the wide open field when two birds of prey started to have an extensive conversation - what could be more menacing to 'a shy little bird' - apart from all the intrusive sounds around it?

stop being present within my body
she yells into her sister's persitant breathing
she so longs to silence the shared dorm room
it's fists, knives, headphones or leaving

the tireless roar of wheels in the streets
makes her shrink with disgust, shudder with horror
there is no room left for her focus to settle
a shy little bird screeching with terror

crowds of people are moving right through her
trampling, coughing, yelling, rushing
her attention disperses, disintegrating
sand on this beach, surrounded by ruins

a hospital clock ticks her awake
time's leaking faucet, relentless
strapped to a frame, exposed, she suffers
cliffside torture, tartarus, helpless

POETRY IS VITAL

This threshold space exists for those who feel like listening to some of my quite professional poetry embedded in rather amateurishly recorded but judiciously arranged sound, a modicum of purely acoustic work notwithstanding. SOUND, SPACE AND TIME

Tend your listening senses gently. Even though my general approach welcomes and embraces lo-fi concepts like the precision of spontaneously occuring imprecisions, headphones worth their membranes are recommended - unless you like your sounds flat, mangled, battered and helpless. You don't, do you? Be kind to these soundscapes.

STRUCTURING IMPULSE

Due to the nature of "poetry soundscapes", your listening expectations regarding traditionally structured "songs", sonically purified "raw wildlife soundscapes", keyboard-laden "ambient recordings" or voice-centered "readings" might not be met. You will find some of those in my list of /likes/. "Noise" is a recurring structural element like any other. This is what this sounds like - within its own rights, limitations, tangents and interconnections. Sonic structures. Silent stretches. Poetry emerges from the gaps between the ruts, seeps in from the undergrowth, sweeps down.

CARVING, CHISELLING, KNEADING, MORPHING

A quick glance into my toolshed rests on Zoom recorders, Samplitude software and a dizzying array of diverse sonic machinery. After all, sound is one way my poems know to materialize - insolently shapeshifting, indelibly greening into the cultural real.

Above, there is a tiny poem of mine that I do not understand how to translate into sound. If you do - please act on it. This is just a small gift, not a challenge - life already has more than enough of those on offer, doesn't it? Treat it this way.
