The music was inspired by grand nature, desolated places, silence … I often brought the dog during these sessions and she enjoyed lying beside me, watching birds or boats passing by ... Hopefully the music will echo such moments ...

Drifts, waves, currents, tides in a fjord. Everything, though, is undergoing constant mutation in interrelation. Change creates time and unidirectional time lays down the sediments we call history. This is what we are looking at, what we are listening to, what we are wading through.The momentum of past changes forces on, creating, pushing 'the world' as well as this particular self into being. This is quite an immersive, all-encompassing experience. Any attempt at free choice would require a movement of consciousness and awareness. Several hardware and software effects have beeen involved in the processes that have taken place on my side of these sounds.

Narration: With historical persons, we not only tend to adopt the victor's stories - but even more the underlying narrative of 'completeness from the beginning'. Both - of course - is nonsense. Exactly that is why it is so joyful to give in to both of these urges - as in this poem - for it allows us to remain in the comfort zones of our preconceptions.

Jazz variations made after listening to a rap track by Dtrot the Pilot, a vast talent....first time listening...and I mean really listening... to a rap track....specifically....listening to the musical patterns. After immersion in Dtrot the Pilot's track (Whatcha Feelin) for over an hour...this came out. Thank you Dtrot. You inspired me.

Jazz (Horn) Variations on listening carefully to a rap track

Hiraeth discovered her power one day while staring up at the sky, lost in thought. As she concentrated, she noticed a small, white cloud slowly drifting across the blue expanse. She found that she was able to move the cloud slowly across the sky, just by her thinking about it. Excited by her discovery, she tried again and again, each time with more focus, until the clouds were dancing to the rhythm of her mind.

POETRY IS VITAL

This threshold space exists for those who feel like listening to some of my quite professional poetry embedded in rather amateurishly recorded but judiciously arranged sound, a modicum of purely acoustic work notwithstanding. SOUND, SPACE AND TIME

Tend your listening senses gently. Even though my general approach welcomes and embraces lo-fi concepts like the precision of spontaneously occuring imprecisions, headphones worth their membranes are recommended - unless you like your sounds flat, mangled, battered and helpless. You don't, do you? Be kind to these soundscapes.

STRUCTURING IMPULSE

Due to the nature of "poetry soundscapes", your listening expectations regarding traditionally structured "songs", sonically purified "raw wildlife soundscapes", keyboard-laden "ambient recordings" or voice-centered "readings" might not be met. You will find some of those in my list of /likes/. "Noise" is a recurring structural element like any other. This is what this sounds like - within its own rights, limitations, tangents and interconnections. Sonic structures. Silent stretches. Poetry emerges from the gaps between the ruts, seeps in from the undergrowth, sweeps down.

Above, there is a tiny poem of mine that I do not understand how to translate into sound. If you do - please act on it. It is a matter of common decency, of course, to keep the title (Small Gifts) and to credit the lyrics to me (jo richter). And please do notify me of your version via a soundcloud message. One bewilderingly beautiful version crafted by mono-lux has already gone public, as well as an amazing version by cthonicist.  You'll find both in my playlist Sympoetic Ultrasounds. This is just a small gift, not a challenge - life already has more than enough of those on offer, doesn't it? Treat it this way.
