Deersky’s Soundteller Records welcomes Sinan Arsan to the label for his debut single ‘Ebonise’. Based in Ankara, the Turkish artist first came to out attention late last year with a release on Stellar Fountain’s Astrowave division. Subsequent offerings on Big Bells, Droid9 South America, Future Avenue and Mistique Music have made for a great 2020 thus far. Now following a contribution to Transensations ‘Transenses II’ collection, Sinan lands on Soundteller with a new single alongside remixes from Kenan Savrun and Nacres.

Already known for his trippy progressive sound, Sinan continues to explore that ethos here with ‘Ebonise’. Groovy and atmospheric in equal measure, it’s charged foundation and glassy clusters immediately grab your attention. Spacey arps and driving percussion add momentum across the first act, as vocal wails bring a spiritual context coming into the break. The centrepiece only enhances the meditative qualities of the track, building tension through subtle modulation and bassy swells, before percussive rides spark a huge drop and exhilarating final act.

Fellow countryman Kenan Savrun returns to Soundteller and provides the first remix. Fresh off releases for Another Life Music and Movement Recordings, the Ankara resident goes all out with a fiery peak time interpretation that really delivers. Layered beats, muscular basslines and a vortex of tripped out audio make this a production to get truly lost in. There are few tracks that capture the magic of what progressive music was nearly 20 years ago but this does that quite successfully. Think John Digweed Delta Heavy Essential Mix and this is not far off from what was resonating so strongly at the time. Massive remix from Kenan.

Rounding out the release and completing this all Turkish affair is Nacres who provides the second and final interpretation. Having appeared on the label’s Vibrant Vibeland #10 collection in May of this year, Nacres has also found a home on Bonzai Records, Deepersense Music and Massive Harmony Records. Now returning to Soundteller for his first remix, Nacres puts his own unique twist on ‘Ebonise’. Sitting as a lovely complement to the original the Istanbul resident takes the edge off just a touch for a floaty yet still incredibly groovy interpretation. Meandering synths add just the right amount of tension as they blanket the chugging rhythms and effervescent textures, before getting washed away into a tranquil break and percussive driven finale. A lovely interpretation from Nacres which caps off this exciting release from Soundteller Records, proving that progressive music is still flourishing in Turkey. Highly recommended.

Onedotsixtwo continues to showcase the finest rising global talent in 2020 by welcoming those Argentine masters of groove and emotion, Oliver & Tom back to the label for their debut ‘Penny’ EP release, having previously been introduced to the onedotsixtwo audience via their contribution to Gustin’s excellent ‘Synchronicity’ (ODST0019) mix comp. Another super-talented Argentine DJ/Producer, Nico Szabo, provides an excellent remix of ‘Penny’ to complete this outstanding package.

The title track is a pulsating beauty, its futuristic melodic mastery conjuring up images of an electronic past signposted by the likes of Giorgio Moroder and Kraftwerk, which Oliver & Tom then uniquely re-imagine for the future in a proper progressive musical framework. The duo’s skilled musicianship sets them apart from the crowd, a symbiosis that originated in their childhood, having grown up together playing guitar and drums, followed by studying piano and synthesizer. 

Their highly impressive musical and studio skills first caught the attention of Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden in 2017 and their career trajectory has continued upwards ever since. Already busy through 2020, their releases have previously appeared on Tarnished Tracks, Balkan Connection, Vested Recordings and Massive Harmony. But, never ones to rest on their creative laurels, it is ‘Penny’ along with the perfectly complimentary, heavenly melodic wonderment of ‘Till Sunrise’ that are perhaps their finest works yet. 

Nico Szabo is another prodigious young talent emanating from Buenos Aires whose ever-growing array of remixes, on the likes of Clinique, 3rd Avenue and Balkan Connection, have been turning heads already throughout the first half of 2020. Another talented musician, having studied guitar and electric bass from the age of 12, Nico’s studio skills are now focused on producing the finest proper progressive house music. Here he takes ‘Penny’ on a deeper journey, sprinkling his arrangement with beautiful melodies and locking everything down to perfection with a super-tight groove.

Deersky’s Soundteller Records rounds out the month of August by welcoming Frangellico to the label for his debut EP. The Argentinean artist has been a fixture of the progressive music scene since first appearing in 2006. Releases on Clubsonica Records, Massive Harmony Records and Stellar Fountain sit as his discography highlights. Now following a remix of Gaston Ponte’s ‘My Acid Drums’, Frangellico debuts on Soundteller with ‘1980’.

The title track kicks off the proceedings with a classic progressive sensibility. Warm beats, rolling grooves and a bubbly arp work wonderfully across the first act. Positive and energetic, the chunky groove eventually strips down as glowing pads and quirky electronics trail into the main break. Stunning effects further saturate your senses here, building anticipation as glowing swells lead towards a classy drop and driving finale.

The second selection ‘Pictures From Youth’ continues the fresh progressive sound of the EP. Built around a chugging foundation, it’s spacey effects and wispy atmospheres create an otherworldly vibe early on, before a more distinct lead melody fades in and out of prominence. The main break furthers intrigue through ghostly overlays and fragmented cascades, combining for goosebump moments and providing a smooth transition into a rolling final act.

The release concludes with ‘Matinée’ which drifts further into hypnotic territory. Anchored by a warm and sightly pacier groove, it’s lively tones and chugging rhythms resonate beautifully against a backdrop of swirling noise. Emotive chord changes make for a poignant yet quirky lead line, before coming to full fruition during the main break and a pulsating finale. It rounds out a great Soundteller debut from Frangellico, who continues to deliver nostalgic progressive moods as he approaches two decades in the game. Highly recommended.

The latest release from Deersky’s Soundteller Records welcomes KYOTTO to the label for his debut EP. The Sri Lankan artist first appeared on the progressive music scene in 2017 with releases on Clinique Recordings, Hot Cue Music and Zephyr Music. The following two years yielded similar successes with a string of releases for Polyptych. 2020 has seen KYOTTO contribute to the the Shagara Records ‘Stelliferous’ compilation in addition to an EP for Nikko’Z’s Dopamine White. Now landing on Soundteller Records for the first time, KYOTTO presents his ‘White Lights’ EP.

Continuing to gain fans with his progressive sounds, it is the title track ‘White Lights’ which leads the release off. Anchored by a tough yet warm kick, its rhythmic core rises quickly, with layers of detailed percussion and lively rhythms filling in the framework. Placid atmospheres bring hopeful qualities while sweeping effects add an old school progressive vibe. Relying heavily on rhythm and groove, it’s tracky nature sucks you in across the first act, perfectly setting up an emotional break which spearheads a heavenly finale.

The EP’s midway point finds KYOTTO exploring more heady percussive grooves with ‘Until We Meet Again’. Its chunky foundation is rugged and well shaped, characterized by rippling contours and rolling undulation. Buoyant and powerful, it provides the perfect framework for waves of percussion, vocal gates and quirky effects to steal the air. The narrative shifts into emotive territory as the breakdown smoothly moves through tranquil overlays and gorgeous tonal themes, before smoothly segueing into a groovy final movement.

Rounding out the release are the smooth, uplifting vibes of ‘Nights in Santorini’. Punchy beats, chugging basslines and rolling percussion unite for a groovy rhythmic core. Rising atmospheres and emotive chord changes then advance the narrative, elevating mood with each successive loop, before symphonic themes and a reflective break seal it’s emotive appeal. It caps off a gorgeous EP from KYOTTO, making for a brilliant Soundteller debut and adding to Sri Lanka’s growing list of progressive music talents. Highly recommended.
