Selador Sessions 69 | Steve Parry

Hello and welcome back to PFG -The Progcast, our exclusive weekly travelogue exploring the world of Planet Prog.

Continuing on our mini break around the British Isles, we head north of the border to our first trip into Scotland, and her capital Edinburgh. We searched long and hard to find a DJ to represent his country WITHOUT turning to a big name, and we're happy to announce we think you'll agree with our selection. Popular amongst the many groups, podcasts and online stations that he plays for, PFG are proud to present.... Stevie Reid!

I've always had an interest in dark electronic music when growing up, but I think it was seeing Leftfield live in 1996 which set me on the path to the dark progressive house that I love. My first interest in DJing didn’t arrive until 2006, but it quickly became an obsession that has never left me.

Come 2010 I was playing regularly at Edinburgh club night Karnival, and thanks to my friend, Kev Wright  (producer and veteran of the Edinburgh club scene) I was able to get involved in some production, seeing several tracks released together.

After a few years feeling disconnected from the scene, I resumed recording mixes regularly in 2016, and never looked back. In the last three years I’ve been fortunate enough to have my entry to a mix competition picked out by Quivver, appear on Gai Barone’s Patterns show, do guest mixes for Saturo Sounds and 21C Progressive House, and play a gig in New York with two of my closest friends.

 After an initial guest mix for Progressive House UK, they asked me to become  resident with them. I find it incredibly exciting to have a platform on which to create mixes every month, alongside other great DJ's.

I am truly honoured to have been asked to put a mix together for PFG's Progcast, its such an amazing group and I really hope you enjoy the mix. If you do, you can find more of mine at:

PFG The Progcast - Episode 26 - Stevie Reid

Gary Mac has been a DJ for almost 30 years now, cutting his teeth in the early days of the rave scene in his home country, Northern Ireland. 

He began playing in clubs in various towns and cities across all of Ireland and the UK shortly after that. However, as the late 90's merged into the new century he held not one, but two long term residencies at two of Belfast iconic events at the SAME time, in The Netwerk and Larry's, quite the achievement for anyone..
 
He is currently enjoying being part of the Ubik Events team, one of Northern Ireland's leading underground dance event and promotion teams, made up of a tight bunch of friends, being cleverly steered by Andy Condie. Having started out as just DJ's playing their specialist genres of Trance, Techno and Progressive, the team now book sell out nights hosting the biggest Electronic acts, have also moved into Radio, and even producing their own music.

For our September edition of the Exclusive Series, Gary describes this mix as "Exactly what he would play in a club, if we were able to go clubbing!" We've given him three hours to tell you his story, and as the set unfolds we go from a bright, pacey intro straight into recognisable tracks from recent months.
Theres a lovely uplifting flow as Gary's experience behind the decks keeps the feet shuffling and the body moving nicely. Track selection is key in longer sets, and its easy to see how he kept those two residencies going at the same time, choosing tunes that not only fit perfectly into the mix, but fit perfectly into our ethos of having fun while on the dance-floor too.

Selador Sessions 75 | Luke Brancaccio

Steve Parry is unquestionably at the top of the UK scene, regularly playing along side heavy weights such as John Digweed, Sasha, Dave Seamen, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J, he is the DJ’s choice of DJ.

Widely respected across the industry, his acclaimed 3 year residency at the iconic Cream in Liverpool, seen him rise to the top, regularly being booked to headline around the world, playing in clubs such as Ministry of Sound and the legendary Space Ibiza.

His ties to his home city of Liverpool are strong, where he managed the world famous 3Beat Records, and as a promoter, Steve had much success, firstly with his legendary ‘Alderaan’ nights which ran from ’97 – 2001 in a room above the infamous Lemon Lounge and helped to shape the very scene Liverpool has become known for to this day.

Now in between touring the world, Steve and long term friend and business partner Dave Seamen head up the Selador label, with many chart toppers under their belt already and many more to come.
