Deepest Of Purple

A story-telling folk song about the English Civil War. Legend has it Oliver Cromwell sold his soul to the devil the night before the Battle of Worcester. He won the battle and the war, turning England into a republic for the first and only time, then died seven years to the day later - allegedly the term of his pact with the devil. But a "witness" claimed to have seen him arguing with the devil for twenty-one years, not seven. That's the detail that interests me. I grew up and went to my first school on the site of the battle of Worcester... and on the edge of the wood where Cromwell met the devil (allegedly).

So, this track comes from my previous album released in May 2022. It's a long and painful story. I never managed to finish mixing it due to a computer glitch, and I didn't have a backup, what a foolish mistake! So, it's as it is. Why Streams13? I had a band in the 90s, The Streams. I chose the name after Lennon's 'I'm only sleeping.' Later, I discovered several other bands named Streams on platforms. So, I added 13 (which is the number of the department where I was born). I did it too quickly, as it's quite an ugly band name and unpronounceable in French. Anyway! Too complicated to change now.
