Merca Bae Presents: Down Theory, the second instalment in the label’s artist-led curation series, arriving 13th November. Curated by Merca Bae, the compilation delves into the landscape of Downtempo Bass music, intertwining between Dancehall, Tarraxo, Breaks, and Reggaeton.

Through this release, Merca Bae spotlights the wide scope of Downtempo music and its continued presence across global underground scenes. Over the past few years, club music has trended toward higher BPMs and relentless, fast-paced energy, but Down Theory offers a space to explore slower, weightier & sexier rhythms as a way to embrace slower, bass-driven music in a club environment.

The project features contributions from Chá Di Lirian, Grindalf, and Entrañas, alongside established producers styn and Faraonika, and introduces Unayo and Tempo Fino, who debut their first productions under new aliases.

Down Theory offers a cohesive yet wide-ranging snapshot of contemporary low-end experimentation.

⇯ 𝐒𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐄 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐄𝐑𝐄 ⇯ @osheyack and @nahashisalive teamed up for an incredible track called "Le Temps Fou" for the new 42-track compilation by Spanish label and event series @flux-aeterna-968106596

➜ Osheyack about this track: "The track it’s something Raph and I (Eli, Osheyack) made quickly, sending stems and samples back and forth for a few days. The main sample is from the album Le Temps Fou by Marion Brown (1969)." The duo has flipped the saxophonist Marion Brown's music into a totally mad club-hybrid storm in their signature style.

¶ Curated by Yugen Kala, the initiative "Flux" started as a series of monthly events that have consistently acted as a meeting point where diverse musical and cultural paradigms intersect. Flux connects Galicia’s local scene with varied international voices, creating a dialogue that transforms difference into resonance. In this sense, the project can be understood as a living exchange - shaped by an ongoing flux of experiences, sounds, and knowledge - where seemingly disconnected communities are brought together organically.

¶ Over more than 50 editions and 100 performances, this ethos has materialized in an expansive constellation of talent, such as: seminal label founders Kode9 (Hyperdub), μ-Ziq (Planet Mu), Rabit (Halcyon Veil), Mumdance (Different Circles), Fausto Bahía & Mexican Jihad (NAAFI), Kamixlo (Bala Club), and Endgame (Precious Metals); cutting-edge voices from Shanghai’s SVBKVLT, including 33EMYBW and Osheyack; artists associated with Nyege Nyege, such as Ecko Bazz, Phelimuncasi, De Schuurman, and Sisso & Maiko; and Lisbon’s Príncipe Discos, featuring Nídia, DJ Marfox, DJ Firmeza, and DJ Narciso.

¶ To commemorate this trajectory, Flux presents a compilation featuring 42 exclusive contributions from past guests on their new label, Flux Æterna. This compilation stands as both an archival gesture and a statement of intent, celebrating a legacy of reinvention while opening new paths forward.

Contributing to Vief Records’ annual Palestine fundraiser compilation, 'Just Now' finds Taipei-based producer B E N N crystallizing his signature blend of rhythm and ritual into one of the project’s most striking moments. As part of a 15-track collection raising money for the Palestine Solidarity Campaign - the UK’s largest organization dedicated to securing Palestinian human rights - the track stands alongside leftfield electronic music from an exciting line up of artists spanning five continents.

✚ Chaos and Order is the new project from B E N N, a Taipei-based producer/ DJ and founder of label @overmybodytw, operating at the intersection of sound, philosophy and abstraction. Chaos and Order is an auditory study of rupture and resonance, an experimental soundscape shaped by modern sonic fragmentation. 

✚ Drawing inspiration from Taoist cosmology, B E N N weaves fractured rhythms, collapsing structures, and granular forms of digital decay to embody the shifting interplay of Yin and Yang, entropy and order in constant flux. Across the EP rhythms become rituals, and forms become states of perpetual disintegration and reassembly, where glitch is not error but in essence an aesthetic of imperfection and transformation. His work resists resolution, favoring inward collapse and constant transformation: Intimate yet conceptual, narrative driven yet defiantly non-linear. His work is continuously shifting between post-club terrains and more abstract sonic inquiry

∎ When you say global club music, there is no better concrete musical example than Wrack. He is making rich and hybrid, truly global music, which is a modern and innovative mixture of many international genres. South African GQOM, Mexican tribal, Colombian guaracha, Brazilian baile funk, Jamaican dancehall, UK Funky, UK grime, US trap, vogue, and many others. Wrack blends all together and still maintains his signature style. When you hear Wrack's fast percussion, you instantly know it's his music.

∎ For this EP, he says: "In a world where streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music are becoming mainstream, the sampling culture of the past, such as SoundCloud, is disappearing. I thought that this was such a waste, so I created this piece using free-flowing samples. So I say the theme of this project is freedom. I just wanted to sample freely." The tracks Paru and Goi are accompanied by remix versions by our musical friends Jaijiu from Buenos Aires' Rebote Discoteca and J. Córdova from Chicago's Agua de Rosas.

∎ Wrack is often your favorite DJ's/producer's favorite producer. Brodinski, Sinjin Hawke, Zora Jones, Umru, Scratcha DVA, or Kaval, you can hear his music in their sets for sure. As a DJ, he is a resident at Hong Kong Community Radio (HKCR) and has contributed mixes to Boiler Room, Mixmag, NTS, Rinse, and i-D. He played shows both in Japan and abroad, including Mexico City, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Xi'an, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Taipei, Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya, Sapporo, and many other places.
