The original version of Chihiro 61298 is one of the highlights of the System 7 Phoenix album. A great collaboration with Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus Henriksson (Son Kite/Minilogue) they provide both their electronic jazzy element (Minilogue) and their deep techno-trance element (Son Kite). The Robita Bells Mix is a remix made by Steve and Miquette that is a bit more dreamy-ambient but still with the powerful pulsating beats, and has appeared as a bonus track with some versions of the album.

How this track fits into the Phoenix story?

In what is one of the darkest Phoenix stories – “Resurrection” – Osamu Tezuka works with the intriguing question that preoccupies many science-fiction writers:- can robots have a soul and if so how is that soul formed? Leon is medically reconstructed by futuristic techniques after a horrific accident but feels more in common with robots than with humans and falls deeply in love with the humble secretary robot Chihiro 61298, who he sees as a beautiful woman. Eventually the two are united as one after death, remaining in existence as the soul of the large and friendly robot Robita, who becomes one of the emblematic characters of the whole Phoenix series. This is a story of deep and dark emotions with the magical guidance of the Phoenix hovering in the background.

SYSTEM 7 provide the conscious link between the techno and house explosion of the 80s and its European psychedelic antecedents of the 70s, and have had a strong influence on the birth of psychedelic dance music and its journey up to the present.

Consistently progressive, System 7’s central producers - guitarist Steve Hillage and keyboardist Miquette Giraudy - have forged a unique and bang up-to-date identity on the dance music genre map, in a space where techno, progressive and trance meet – with a healthy side-element of unique quality ambient chill. This chill element is further developed in their sister project Mirror System.

As one of the first techno groups to play live, System 7 have also had a strong influence on the development of the dance music festival scene, particularly in the UK, and are big festival favourites playing regularly around the world.

Since the beginning of the 90s System 7 projects have been marked by a series of high powered collaborations, working with Detroit luminaries Derrick May and Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier, The Orb, Jam El Mar, and Son Kite among others. System 7’s club singles have had outstanding remixes from the likes of Plastikman, James Holden, Dubfire and Liquid Soul.

The most recent single “PositiveNoise” is a collaboration with A Guy Called Gerald and has remixes by Carl Craig and A.Mochi and another groundbreaking animation video by Japanese team Mood Magic. This track is taken from the new System 7 album “UP” released in June 2011, a lot of which was written and produced in Berlin.

Following on from 2011’s joyful techno-orientated album UP, System 7 hit the spot with their new Passion EP – showing that in 2012 they remain on top of their game with their unique blend of trance and techno.

The fourth and closing track is a more chilled tech-house remix of “Chihiro 61298” from System 7’s ‘Phoenix’ album – remixed by Evan Marc (aka Bluetech) who has a huge reputation on the chillout scene and with whom Steve has made numerous collaborations. The Evan Marc Remix layers traditional ambient japanese tones over a searing piece of tech funk.

"Kupuri" is a word from the language of the Mexican Huichol Indians, meaning the power to to follow your heart path to completion. The groove of this song is inspired by the ragga "Diwali riddim" mixed with Middle Eastern percussion. Rather than an ambient track we see this track as a slow spacey techno track. Fans of glissando guitar please note - there is a rather tasty glissando performance on this piece.

This track uses some sounds first used on a track from the first System 7 album in 1991 in collaboration with Alex Paterson, who is credited here as a co-writer. Another exploration of the interesting territory between prog house and psy-trance, this track also has an openly old school bleepy rave feel to it that pays homage to the original acid-house explosion of the late 80s. "A revolution in attitude - a revolution in consciousness" - a concept that is ever more needed today in this time of senseless wars and global stupidity.

Slovenian born Valentino Kanzyani has been one of Cadenza’s secret weapons over the last twelve months, already building a solid profile with the first two installments of his ‘Love & Gratiude’ series.  And now he delivers the third, and final, part of this musical trilogy, with seven brand new tracks.  Featuring on the double pack vinyl are four choice cuts, with the remaining tracks coming on digital download, and Valentino himself mixing a continuous ‘Love & Gratitude’ mix to be released on CD, featuring almost all of the compositions released on the series.

‘Viole(n)t Thoughts’ opens the vinyl pack, a sultry and smooth workout, its light percussion providing the melody, and a groove that is so intoxicating, its 14 minute tenure really hypnotises.  ‘Automatique’  is a track that comes with grand design, cinematic string sweeps and deft keys shape the deep house rhythm, its filtered hats forever propelling things forward.  On the second disc, ‘Chord Release’ continues to define Kanzyani’s sound, a minimal and dark pallette onto which sub-tropical effects and precision hits and claps are layered, but never over cooking the recipie, just on point and effective dance rhythms.  And closing the vinyl EP is ‘Nesimtitule’, its disjointed arrangement providing the space for the vocal hits and wandering bass, and an elegant string breakdown, again giving filmatic qualities to his music that have been so prevalent in the Love & Gratitude series.

The most recent full System 7 album UP (released May 2011) tips the balance a bit in a more techno and tech house direction, still showcasing the unique System 7 sound with ultra modern production and a feeling of positivity. The album was inspired by time spent in Berlin. The club single, taken from UP, is PositiveNoise, a collaboration with Berlin-based A Guy Called Gerald, and features a new deep techno remix from Carl Craig and a powerful remix from Japanese techno star A.Mochi. PositiveNoise also has great new Japanese animation video clip
