UNDERTALE: STORYSHIFT is a reimagining of Storyshift, set in a post-pacifist timeline of Undertale. Many years after Monsterkind had finally been set free, Alphys suggested to her friends that they all dress up as each other for Halloween, playing off the whole "dressing up as monsters" thing that humans were still prone to doing. A lot of them really seemed to like the idea. So much so, that a certain ghostly, theatrical entertainment robot would be inspired to write a stage play for him and his friends to perform in.

Toriel is meant to represent Undyne. In Mettaton's retelling, Toriel was one of the earliest members of the Royal Guard, being trained by war veterans in preparation for the inevitable. Since adopting Chara, her opinions on humans has changed, but she nonetheless feels duty bound as she has climbed the ranks of Royal Guardship and found herself being the leader.

[As he begins to stand, a small, fox girl wearing a very oversized sweater appears from the shadows, sighing in a way to express slight disappointment.]

"Kobayashi, Kobayashi... I thought i told you to stop drinking, dear..."

[The tiny girl picks up Kobayashi up off of the ground, opening a blue portal, she gently pushes Kobayashi into it. After doing so, she notices Maple dusting himself off.]

"Why hello there, can't say I've seen you around before. What's your name?"

[Maple looks down at the girl, smirking, finding her tiny stature humorous. He extends a hand out]

"Name's Maple, and you are?"

(Senko)
"Senko-San, or just Senko. Whichever is most convenient."
"I take care of everyone that enters these caverns. And i suppose that would include you now, fuhu!"

Mettaton is meant to represent Chara, and takes a much more literal "Narrator" role. Being the writer of the stage play, and given the cards he had been dealt in the big Halloween Dress-up Party, Mettaton figured he'd be fine taking a less active role in the stage play. That is, until now.

Mettaton's play takes on a shocking twist. It's Halloween! What kind of writer would Mettaton be if he didn't give it a spooky twist!? Not even the other performers knew this was going to happen! The cast has no choice but to play along, and play dead when their time comes.
