START OF AN END is our debut single.  It was written about relationships breaking down during the pandemic - the things that make you want to leave and the things that make you stay.  We wanted to reflect the light and shade in both the music and the lyrics.  Even though the verses are dark and heavy, we wanted the chorus to feel like an anthemic 80s party song.

Start of an end

This is most likely the very 1st QOTSA song I ever heard. Mainly because it's the 1st track on their self titled debut album from 1998. I love that 1st album... it's raw, lo-fi, hard groove stoner rock & I wish Queens had stayed the course a bit more than they have. This album was HUGE to us back then. I was just joining a band in Akron, finding myself musically & Josh Homme was a master at writing riffs that I dig. This song is a great example, although I will say that I have always had a slight distaste for that whining steel guitar noise at the very beginning of this song. I dig it when it comes back in later on, but not at the very beginning. However, I left it in my version because if you don't have it at the start, it really comes outta nowhere later & doesn't fit. Anyway, I hope ya dig my cover. I'm gonna do another early Queens again soon... (*I used youtuber Dan Van Nard's drum track in this recording. Regular John (QOTSA Cover 2023)

One of my favorite songs from their 2nd album "Rated R". I really dig the bass line throughout this song. I play it a bit different than Nick Oliverie does, but it grooves! My version is also much "harder" & less airy than Queen's version. This has to be my largest file ever in Audacity... there's so many tracks. Congas, drums, guitars, bass, keyboard & vocals... multiple tracks of everything. I know the song's title is a play on Du Pont's old company motto "Better Things for Better Living... Through Chemistry". With QOTSA it refers to drugs. Lol... enjoy! *2nd Mix.

The all-time party anthem by Queens of the Stone Age! After covering the other 2 songs I fully intended to move on from Queens... then I found a drum track for this song. It only took me about 5 hours over 2 days to complete. Most songs take around 20 hours/a week. But for better or worse here is the song about drugs & alcohol from their 2nd album "Rated R". I actually kinda dig how it turned out.

Them Crooked Vultures is a band with John Paul Jones, Dave Grohl, and Josh Homme and they rock. Hard. This show is from April 17, 2010 in Las Vegas, and it rocks. Hard. 
I play Mind Eraser, No Chaser, New Fang, and Warsaw. These men are from Led Zeppelin(!), Foo Fighters, Nirvana, and Queens of the Stone Age. Legends all. It's a great one.

Them Crooked Vultures are a super group's super group, with John Paul Jones, Josh Homme, and Dave Grohl (from Led Zeppelin, Queens of the Stone Age, and Foo Fighters/Nirvana respectively) playing insanely well together. 
I play Elephants, Caligulove, and Warsaw from the April 17, 2010 show in Las Vegas. This is good stuff from a band who should have released more music, imo.

The Burning Feathers are London's hottest new rock band - harking back to the alt-rock sounds we all know and love from our youth.

Formed during the pandemic, out of a frustration with the current state of music and their want to fill the void and do something different – to stand up, stand out and most importantly, make some noise - they took a no-frills approach, swiftly creating a full body of music that brings together banging sing-along choruses, songs of frustration, sorrow and the search for something better.

I have played guitar since the age of 14 (around 1990 give or take) & I still play to this day... only now instead of playing live or seeking to be in a band, I record my own music at home! I use Audacity software (free!) & basically use a mic to record my guitars, bass & vocals through my various guitar amps. Drums I "program" by downloading tracks from youtube & chopping them up to suit my needs. I write my own music as well as record covers. I'm not a singer & all of my vocals are achieved by doing multiple vocal tracks to create a harmony that is otherwise lacking. Sometimes the results are ok, sometimes it sucks. Either way, making music & taking care of my cats are the 2 main reasons I am on this Earth. I hope you enjoy some of my stuff!

Who are Loob? We are Richard and Simon, a couple of guys who used to be in a band a long while ago and are now a pair of old duffers who like to get together once a week to play and record cover versions of some of our favourite songs. 
One of our aims, apart from having a good laugh, is to try to vary the style of songs we cover because we feel this keeps us fresh and also can take us in directions we wouldn't normally go, which in turn pushes us to better ourselves as musicians. When you listen to the tracks we have posted on this site I think you will agree that they are very varied, ranging form Slipknot to The Shadows, Green Day to Gangnam Style and quite a lot in between. 
Why Loob? Well you may be sorry you asked! When we first started doing this, some 25 years ago now, we felt we needed to call ourselves something other than just Rich and Si. So we set about trying to find a name for ourselves. After many attempts we were no closer to a solution. The problem was that we felt any name we should have should capture the true essence of what we were about, which is basically, to put it bluntly, two blokes messing about having a good laugh creating a load of old bollocks, and that is when we hit on it... Load Of Old Bollocks, use those initials and you get L.O.O.B. and that sums us up perfectly! So that's how we came to settle on the name Loob!

All the songs are created for our own personal enjoyment only, but we thought we would upload some of our tracks to SoundCloud so we can send links to our mates so they can here what we have been up to. We would welcome any comments.
