Music to take you off to the outer reaches... Crisp studio mix from label owner PHD and MC DRS circa 1999. Perfect combination of deep atmospheric ambience and melodies, tough beats, rolling basslines and DRS's lyrical stylings driving the vibe forwards...
PHD had a cache of wicked tunes (some still sadly unreleased) that never quite had the same exposure as the rest of the GLR camp but stood tall in their own right. Some exceptional music makers feature on this mix as well as appearing across the Ascendant Grooves release catalogue. One of those mixes that has never dated and still gets regularly aired. PHD featuring MC DRS - Ascendant Grooves Recordings - 1999 Studio Mix

A mix I did a while ago of some tunes that define y2k futurism for me, tunes with detailed trippy drum patterns and lush otherworldly pads that could've come from the year 4000. This sound was pioneered by artists like Pariah and Future Engineers, and made waves on labels like Partisan and 720 degrees into the early 2000s, but eventually faded away into obscurity. Nonetheless sit back and reminisce at a future that never was.

Thinking back to my recent Big Bud special, I figured I should try to do the same for my other contemporary favourite artist (duo); the Future Engineers. Their techy atmospherics always had a huge impact for me and I have no words to describe how much I love their tunes. Always tricky to mix because of all the melodies, so I tried doing some prework analyzing all the tracks, and even though it is an all-vinyl mix, I tried to mix them as much in key as I could. I did the same for the Big Bud mix at the time, actually. It worked out pretty well, and I even ended up not being able to play 8 more tunes I had lined up. I hope you'll enjoy the recording too!

Welcome back SSS fam and welcome to another journey of sound. Coming on the heels of Bennit's massive, hard hitting session from last week, I've got a new one for you to close us out this weekend. 

Spacewalk features a diverse selection, ranging from liquid and rollers, with a touch of soul grabbing vocal samples to throwback tunes, a bit of hip-hop and carefully chosen ambient joints to add some flavor as we come to a smooth landing through deep cuts of atmospheric jungle and drum and bass, finishing it off with some earthy electronica, all put together with a spacey vibe as the backdrop to the journey as a whole. 

A wide range of sound, filled with tunes from some of my favorite labels and producers, the kind of creative session I most enjoy. Hope you dig it, let us know what you think in the comments and give a like and share if you're feelin' the mix.

On the wind-swept cliffs where the sky bruises into dusk, angelic whispers drift like forgotten hymns, weaving through the salt-heavy air. Below, waves shatter against the ancient rocks, their thunder a chorus to the murmured prayers of the sea. Across the wide, breathless grasslands, the ghosts of lost souls glide in silence, their presence felt more than seen, a chill in the breeze, a shimmer in the fading light, as if this ‘Time and Place’ remembers every story ever wept into its soil.

‘All Inside’

The track’s neural core pulses with rhythm and gravitational magnetism, its usual hum now a fractured stutter that echoes through the corridors like a dying heartbeat. What begins as a
minor systems glitch in the terraforming bots, has escalated into a full-blown breach, something alien has slipped through the quantum relay during the deep-space transmission.

‘All Inside’ cocoons the listener safely, while the visions and chaos battle outside.

Originally from Amsterdam, and now based in Cambridge UK, Dr. Squee has been into DnB since before the turn of the century and DJing for more than two decades. Long time resident DJ on DnB radio Jungletrain.net, currently on a bi-weekly Tuesday evening schedule (21:00-23:00 UK time).

Future Engineers have been producing drum & bass since 1996, with releases on labels such as LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking Records, Blame’s 720 Degrees, Renegade, Partisan, and Vibez.

Transference was launched by Lee in 2010, kicking off with the Future Engineers ‘Ellipse’ EP. The label was established for Lee’s solo material as Future Engineers, but evolved to include various other projects with the likes of Electrosoul System, Sunchase, Operon, Cutworks, Radicall, Dauntless and Fuj.
