In this collection of Discourse excerpts from 2004, Adi Da Samraj responds to His devotees’ questions about death. He speaks of the inconsolable sorrow inherent in losing a loved one, of how to practice at death (and in life), of the actual structure of the “tunnel” experienced in the death transition, and of the Function of the Realizer in the death process. In His Discourse on all these matters, Adi Da Samraj offers no theories, and nothing to be “believed”. Rather, He offers a direct Communication of the Deathless Condition, and the possibility of living a Divinely Purposed life, even in the midst of death and loss. 

Disillusionment, Avatar Adi Da says, with the search for (necessarily insufficient) consolation can serve as a goad to realize the Divine State, Beyond the suffering of loss and inevitable sorrow.

A week ago, I woke with this image
in the darkness of my aching head:

A tear 
dangling from the tip
of an eyelash.
The drop beamed like a small sun.

I’d seen that teardrop before—
years ago
so I already understood the message:

By releasing grief
I will cleanse my eye
and then see the world in light.

But apparently that clarity
is still far away—
as before, I saw the drop 
through the lens of a telescope.

Naturally, I felt disappointed
and began to wonder
if I’d ever reach that sunny place.

So to strengthen my resolve
I wrote this poem—
knowing
I’d rewrite it many times
and each time
I would see that sundrop.
And as a result
the image would anchor in my mind.

So maybe now
I won’t slip 
and forget 
my deep desire 
as I often have in the past.

and slack in the task

This year’s song is different—because instead of focusing on loss, I wanted to celebrate Shawn’s life, his quiet strength, and the way he truly spoke through his guitar. I wrote this score during an exchange semester in Perth, studying Music Composition at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. For one of our assignments we were given the task to score two scenes from two different movies, one of them being 'Island of the Hungry Ghosts'. We also received a director's brief with some rough guidelines, in this case to capture the protagonist's grief and concussion while also highlighting the admiration for the migration of the Christmas Island red crabs.

'Island of the Hungry Ghosts' (2018, dir. Gabrielle Brady) is a hybrid documentary about
Christmas Island, the immigration detention centre there, and the famous migrations of
the Christmas Island red crab. It centres on Poh, a trauma counsellor working with
asylum seekers. Over the course of the film, increasingly punitive government
legislation makes it impossible for her to do her job and to give any hope to her patients.
Despondent and unable to help, she and her family leave the island. The film ends with
her contemplating the sea for a moment before departing, followed by stunning
photography of the island’s jagged surrounds, and the red crabs finally completing their
migration to sea. The director is trying to express a juxtaposition between the red crab
migrations, and the love and care we have for them; and the natural migrations of
humans, and the punishment they receive for it.

It tells the story of someone who once painted their world in green — a color tied to a lover now lost, a presence turned phantom.
With haunting guitar textures, baritone melancholy, and lyrics that blur nostalgia with sorrow, this track captures the ache of remembering someone by the shade they left behind.

There’s a color that survives the collapse.
In “Haunted Green,” sorrow grows wild—verdigris bleeding from memory, sapphire soaked in loss. It walks through static fog, where shadows of Rou blur into echo and color becomes a grave. Melancholic piano carries the weight of fractured dreams. This is where past and pain mix into teal—a haunted green that won’t let go.

Julius Jendrezok is a German filmmaker and composer. Having worked in the film industry for several years, he started to combine his work in the movies with his skills as a pianist as well as his composition aspirations by writing the music for several short films. My # 1 subject is to STOP making bereaved people feel guilty when people without crisis want to have a good time but feel the bereaved spoil their party! Stop putting the burden and blame on bereaved, on sick, on vulnerable people so you can feel selfish. I cover a lot of anger, and it's time for bereaved people to keep speaking out. Louder.
