This month is the turn of the rather lovely Odin2 by The Wave Warden. Another track with a title that is almost completely but not quite totally unrelated to the tune. When a cheese sammich just won't cut it, I present: Odin's BLT.

Back to Bitwig this month for another track created from a bunch of launcher clips adlibbed into a track in one take. A few other wee bits and pieces were added and here we are. All patches from init apart from maybe the kick which started out as a preset. There would have been some automation of Odin's parameters only there seems to be some sort of clash between Bitwig and Odin2 when using automation.

Anyhoo, 15 instances of Odin2 and some of the usual suspects:

- dpMeter5, Blue Cat Audio Gain 3 and KClip Zero on clip to zero duty
- kHs Stereo

Riding a zebra in a stairwell

This month's One Synth Challenge is an any synth round so for no apparent reason I've gone for Kilohearts' Phase Plant. Given that this can use any kHs plugin internally, there are very few external plugins used. As is becoming increasingly usual, the title here has nothing to do with the track.

This uses 16 instances of Phase Plant in Tracktion Waveform Pro 13. Surprisingly light on the CPU although it did crash a few times. The following plugins were also used:

- the usual dpMeter, BlueCat Gain3 and KClip3 (rather than Zero as commercial plugins are allowed this month) for Clip to Zero
- SSL Native FlexVerb to try to add a little something to the bass
- Mastering the Mix MIXROOM and BASSROOM for eq
- Minimal Audio Cluster Delay
- Neold U2A on the percussion buss
- Neold Big Al for a wee bit saturation
- Mastering the Mix FASTERMASTER for mastering: don't usually use automated master thingies but as this doesn't mention AI anywhere, I thought I'd give it a go...

There are some Holy Grail style coconut horses in there somewhere.

Made for KVR's OSC#199 with Tilr's RipplerX physical modelling plugin

Return of the Bears

This month's synth is the rather interesting RipplerX by tiagolr. Bit of a physical modelling departure from usual. Once again, this effort has nothing to do with the title but probably best to keep fingers and toes inside the car at all times. So, this was assembled from a CPU straining 22 instances of RipplerX in Bitwig Studio 5.3.13. I quite liked the dry sound of this synth but even so, a bit of reverb and delay was applied. The following additional plugins were used:

- dpMeter5, Blue Cat Gain 3 and KClipZero on clip to zero duty
- NI Raum and Valhalla Supermassive for some reverb
- Bitwig Drum Machine
- Bitwig Compressor+
- Bitwig Delay+
- Bitwig EQ+

Midi for the percussion was generated with Modalics Beat Scholar while the non-percussion midi was generated with Scaler 3. Most patches were from init with some of the percussion based on the included patches.

Flying Through Liquid Skies

This month's synth is u-he Zebralette 3. As others have stated, given the depth of this synth, I could've spent a whole month on sound design with another month for the track. Given the time constraint, I restricted myself to what my ignorance could produce and the result is this. Definitely more rhythmic than melodic, possibly a bit harsh in places. Once again the title has little to do with the content although, being tortoise adjacent, perhaps imagine a smallish tortoise has managed to get one of your toes in his mouth and won't let go...

This was started in Tracktion Waveform but the many crashes made me move to Bitwig again and the seemingly more stable Clap version of Zebralette. A paltry eight instances of Zebralette and the following additional plugins:

I've done music all my life, but sound synthesis is another beast. Zebralette is insanely impressive and powerful. I spent several hours on that opening pluck sound, so I had to use it! I also spent hours making a rhodes imitation, more drums, and some upbeat jazz fusion, but I ran out of time. Next Zebralette, I'll be ready!

Aaron Grooves - A Few Stripes Short (OSC 200)

"For in that sleep of hibernation, what dreams may come?"
This month's synth is the powerful and slightly odd Kontrast by Dawsome. This track started out as something approximating a melody bashed out on the Exquis. The chords were derived from that and here we are. This month was the turn of Tracktion Waveform Pro 13 and only eight instances of Kontrast. It's easy to produce harmonically rich patches with this synth so that seems to have kept the track count down. The percussion was done with a single patch using the sequencer. Kontrast comes with usual extensive collection of effects built in so only the following external plugins were used:

- the usual Clip to Zero combo of dpMeter5, Blue Cat Gain3 and KClip3
- Hornet ZeroEQ: giving this a shot to see how it performs
- Hornet ZeroComp as above
- bx_masterdesk Pro
- iZotope Tonal Balance
- Master the Mix Levels

Wavetables were generated from Taron's brilliant Wavetabling and the Gimp. I used a few of the factory wavetables too. All patches from init although some of them were started with the randomizer.
