On the Saturday night of Monument Festival 2024, amenthia recordings co-founder agonis delivered a legendary session of futuristic, crystalline electronics. With the dancers engulfed in thick fog and red lasers, and the newly upgraded sound system of the Varden stage at his command, agonis drenched the crowd with tidal waves of finely tuned, precision psychedelia that was crafted specifically for the Norwegian forest. For the newest instalment, i'm really happy to welcome the incredible Brussels-based AliA (@aliamusicc). The local mainstay is a regular on Kiosk radio and runs her own label - @artisjokrecords. Alyah, better known as AliA,  has an exciting & unique approach to dj'ing. She is known for her blend of contemporary club music with jazz, classical and experimental sounds. 

I find AliA's musical outputs incredibly refreshing - the kind of artist who reminds you what a really good DJ can do - they can present genres & sounds to you that you'd otherwise maybe not typically explore, in a new and exciting way. For her Animix, Alyah has gone for an intensely chill blend of ambient & immersive music, with minimal, glitchy, dub techno, jazz, classical sounds and more.

Detroit’s Craig Gonzalez was drawn to vinyl from a young age, captivated by hip hop and the underground party scene of the 1990s. This fascination quickly evolved into a lifelong passion for DJing, driven by a desire to weave rhythmic layers into compelling, personal stories. 

A self-taught artist, Gonzalez’s collection spans the rich musical evolution of Detroit, including techno, house, hip hop, funk, dnb, and a diverse range of other genres. His skills were further honed during his residency at Solar in Ann Arbor, where he shared the decks with renowned artists. Gonzalez has also been a frequent fixture at Movement and other major local events, where he’s shared the stage with legends in the electronic music scene. Since 2022, he has been a resident DJ for the Third Thursday monthly event by Paxahau, further cementing his presence in Detroit’s vibrant nightlife scene. 

Deeply influenced by the musical depth of Detroit and the hypnotic craft of global artists, Gonzalez’s style reflects a rich, interconnected network of like-minded creators. His connection to family, history, and the culture surrounding electronic music gives his sets a profound sensibility, effortlessly translating onto the dance floor.

Today’s Deep Mind Music entry is a trip through the depths of the earth from Shoal 🌘🌙

Listening to this set I was transported into another realm of being, taken by the hand through the mists of time, into the molten core of the earth. A transmission from the collective unconsciousness of mankind, sinking into the faded memories of our ancestors. Megalithic drones contrast with intricate moments of delicate celestial harmony, as iridescent shimmers of light glint into a shadowed cave. As the mix concludes, we softly re-emerge, floating on a blanket of rainbow-hued clouds ✨🤍

This mix is a live set made entirely of music composed by Shoal, formed from a series of recordings. It features field recordings captured in Japan, as well as a jam session with flute (Urosh), contrabass (Julian Tjon Sack Kie), and sound exploring a tam-tam gong, all collaged together. Thank you Shoal for this moving and evocative journey taking listeners through the primordial beyond 🌌💠🌀

One central element always remains: a deep love and understanding of sound and all its influential effects. Peter Van Hoesen runs Time To Express and Center 91. Together with AtomTM he is SYNC. - a live techno project focused on improvisation and collaboration. Together with Yves De Mey he is Sendai, a forward looking experimental outfit with releases on Editions Mego, Archives Intérieures, Konstrukt and Stroboscopic Artefacts.

Fractious' record label, RAW WORX, closes 2025 with a five-track compilation featuring Boom Merchant, Coutts, Haindo, EON (IE), and a track by Fractious himself.
RAW WORX is a record label that focuses on dark and immersive techno with stripped-back grooves, gritty percussion, and analogue sounds. This release focuses on a selection of artists that embody the imprint's sonic identity.
Boom Merchant is a techno artist with a bass-heavy sound, which often combines traditional techno grooves with innovative samples. He is an Irish artist living in Mexico, and he runs the Tribal Pulse record label, which is a regular outlet for his music. Boom Merchant has also featured on other respected imprints ranging from T78's Autektone Dark, to La La's Brand New Records.
This promo sampler features only Boom Merchant's track, "Corriente," which has acid bass stabs and rumbling sub-bass, underpinning shuffling percussion and a hammering kick drum. Trippy melodies ripple across the hypnotic groove, which unfolds with swells of menacing tension.

I live, work, and make music on the un-ceded lands and waters of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. 

Australia's institutional and legal foundations were founded on the myth that nobody inhabited this continent when the first fleet of boats coming from England arrived. Speaking for settlers like myself, the least we can do is redistribute our privilege (whatever forms it might take) earned off the back of a history and ongoing practice of dispossession, erasure and violence perpetuated against First Nations peoples.   

Making music against this backdrop will always feel fraught to me until we achieve real justice and honour the many Indigenous legal orders, polities, knowledges and traditions that are already in existence in this place but have been denied by the State of their rightful, sovereign legitimacy.
