I've been sitting on this beat for years, and last weekend Distant sent me the snippet I posted on Instagram when I made it asking if I ever dropped it. I almost never post a snippet of a beat and then never drop a beat, and to be honest I'd completely forgotten about this one. Decided to see if I could get a remix working, and after listening to the beat again I immediately thought of this song by Onyx. Not really sure why, I just felt like the two would blend well together. This sample was absolutely bodied in the Mobb Deep Survival Of The Fittest Remix from the 90s 12" release, definitely check that if you haven't heard it. Peace!!

Had a lot of fun with this one, it's always dope to get a remix working for an absolute classic that I would never normally think of remixing. When I made this beat I was really gassed off how much energy the sample had, it has such a huge presence with how loud the horns are. Immediately I was thinking about what acapella would even work over such a powerful sound, and I almost straight away thought about 99 Problems, cause of how loud the OG beat is with the crashes, guitar etc. Went and tested how it flowed over this beat and that came out crazy, so from there it was just a bit of work to get the mix sounding good, and I'm defo happy with where I got it. 

This track really is such a classic, I remember how huge it was when it came out and even for years after: it was almost notorious for how hardcore sounding it was. I haven't listened to it in a while and I really paid attention to the verses more, and they've really held up imo, still crazy hard hitting, straight to the point with loads of dope lines, especially the first verse that one really starts the track off crazily. Also shoutout to Ice T on the hook, he actually came up with that on a track back in 1993, got to give him credit for that cause I didn't know that until recently.

One of my favourite AZ acapellas, the verses and the hook especially have always been crazy to me, been wanting to remix it for a while but I never felt like I had the right beat. 

When I made this one I had a feeling it would fit well, the vibe just matched the acapella imo, and the flow was a nice fit too. Beat was a lot of fun to flip, loads of layering from across the sample, the subtle harp chops really elevated the vibe for me, and the way the horn chops echo from the end of the loop into the start gives the beat a lot of momentum I think.

For the visuals I used the video for The Come Up, just had to get some nice visuals for this one to bring it to life, I think all the shots of the birds flying really fit the vibe of this remix well, this beat really gives off that sort of imagery to me, the way the horns echo really makes me think of that kind of imagery.
