Great stuff, it's like a space orchestra :)

The sounds on Texture & Light’s new EP, “Eat Magic” bring listeners on a fuzzy, deep, slow motion journey across a dance floor, while the themes lead you deep within yourself. If this sounds heavy, it is - but it’s also light. There’s plenty of space between the big ideas for dancing or navel gazing. The songs on Eat Magic were performed live as they were being written, and they slowly evolved and grew in front of many different people before they were completed. Far from being created in a vacuum, they are living, breathing parts of Trevor’s 2017 life experience - and maybe yours too.

The lead off track, ‘Leaning In’ is a synth laden, sub touching, indie dance track with lyrics that are loosely inspired by Pema Chodron's philosophy of "leaning in to the sharp points” in times of difficulty. The acid line that shows up at the halfway point however, may encourage you to dance your cares away instead. 

‘Merlin’ is a deep ambient techno track that features twinkling bell synth sounds, a lead line played on a dulcimer, smooth sub drops, and a composite of three ancient poems from three different centuries. It wouldn’t be out of place on a new Four Tet album. 

‘Leave The City’ is the grittiest of the bunch - the drums and baseline head straight for the jugular as the song slowly unfolds into brighter synth sounds and lofty ideas about leaving the city behind - A favourite writing topic of Trevor’s. 

Closing the journey is ‘Infinite Push’, a short little dreamy ambient piece that offers to take you to inner space or outer space depending on your willingness to let go.

‘Compassion Pit’ is the lead single from the 3rd Texture & Light LP 'Vulture Medicine', and it perfectly embodies what the music of Texture & Light stands for - it is both heavy and light, fit for dancing and for daydreaming. 

Ocean waves give way to weird and wonderful melodic synth lines and analog drum machine beats that invite the listener’s body to sway like care-free seaweed in the tide, while the lyrics paint a story of depth, feeling, pain, and hope. Hazy guitar lines round out the sonic spectrum, providing an anchor in this sea of electronic dreams.

Robert E. Livingood is a multi-media artist, DJ, and producer. His DJ
sets span the territories of new wave, synth, dark disco, minimal, and
post-punk. As a producer, he uses hardware synths as a means to dialog with the forces of wild nature. This process results in experimental dance tracks and lo-fi ambient pieces enveloped in smokey atmospheric layers of sound. Robert has released music on Emerald & Doreen, Divination & Strategy, The Black Lodge, and Ombra INTL. Originally from the late 70s early 80s punk scene in Detroit, Robert now resides in the mountains of western Canada where he studies grizzly bears and organizes cultural events in the thriving art scene of Nelson, British Columbia.
