Jim is Founder and Senior Partner of Instructional Coaching Group (ICG), a research associate at the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning. He has spent more than two decades studying professional learning and instructional coaching. Jim earned his PhD in Education from the University of Kansas and has won several university teaching, innovation, and service awards. The pioneering work Jim and his colleagues have conducted has led to many innovations that are now central to professional development in schools. Jim’s books include ‘Instructional Coaching’, ‘Focus on Teaching’, ‘Unmistakable Impact, ‘High-Impact Instruction, ‘Better Conversations’, ‘The Impact Cycle, and ‘The Definitive Guide to Instructional Coaching’. Jim conducts coaching workshops, hosts the Facebook Live series ‘Coaching Conversations’, and provides consulting for coaching programs around the world.

Deborah Netolicky talks with Karen Spiller OAM CF about leadership and governance in schools. For 23 years, Karen was Principal of two schools in Queensland: St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School and John Paul College. She has also been the Chair of the national bodies the Association of Heads of Independent Schools, Australia and the Alliance of Girls Schools, Australasia. Karen was a member of the Board of Independent Schools Australia and Yalari and was Chair of The Board of Independent Schools Queensland for six years. Karen was a member of the St Laurence’s College Board for five years and is now a member of the Sisters of the Sacred Advent Trust - the governing body that oversees St Aidan’s and St Margaret’s Anglican Girls’ Schools. She is also a member of the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools Australia Commission and remains a member of QUT Council as well as a member of the Finance and Planning subcommittee of the Council. Karen holds an MBA, a Masters of Educational Administration and is a Fellow of AICD and ACEL.

Kylie (BA, DipEd, MEd) is an experienced and award-winning teacher and scholar, and now Director and Education Consultant with Growing Up Greatness. Kylie specialises in gifted education, differentiation, assessment, disability and educating diverse student groups. Kylie was previously the Senior Inclusive and Gifted Education Consultant at the Association of Independent Schools of WA (AISWA), and has many years of experience working with diverse students in government and non-government schools in Western Australia, including students with learning difficulties, disability, gifted and talented and twice exceptional. Kylie has delivered professional learning to a range of audiences, schools, national and international conferences.

Kylie Bice on adjusting teaching for the learning of all students

Deborah Netolicky talks with Matthew Esterman about the role of AI in education, including its possibilities, limits, impact on student learning and potential to reduce teachers’ workloads. Matthew has held a number of teaching and leadership roles in schools, most recently as Director of Innovation and Partnerships at Our Lady of Mercy College Parramatta. Matthew Esterman on the possibilities of AI in education

Deborah Netolicky talks with Dr Fiona Longmuir. Fiona is a Senior Lecturer in Educational Leadership in the Faculty of Education at Monash University. She is also co-leader of the Education Workforce for the Future Research Impact Lab. Her most recent projects have focused on examining working conditions for educators. In other research Fiona has investigated interactions of school and system leadership with student engagement and agency; the emotional labour of school leadership; leading schools through crises; and, leading for social cohesion and social justice. She publishes on topics of leading schools in complex contexts, teachers working conditions and teacher retention, accountability, policy enactment and student agency in school change. Fiona teaches in the Master of Educational Leadership in units focused on social justice and leading educational change and contributes to leadership programs for international school and system leaders. She previously worked for over 15 years for the Victorian Department of Education and Training as a primary school teacher, curriculum and school leader, and leader of school networks. Fiona is a Victorian Fellow of the Australian Council of Educational Leaders.
