MAYS- EP 12 - Overcoming Exhaustion

Because I love you, I uploaded nearly 3 hours of my stand-up from last year to my SoundCloud—I’m doing this on Valentine’s Day because this material comes directly from my heart to you! For many, the endless quarantine has been a hellish ordeal but not so much for me—this past year I experienced a creative rebirth, due in no small part to the forced intimacy of performing to tiny crowds in living rooms and parking lots because of the quarantine. What strikes me most when listening to this stuff is how much FUN everyone is having—there’s a joyful vibe to these imperfect recordings…if you stayed inside all year, you really missed out. I know 2 hours and 53 minutes is a lot to ask y’all to tackle, which is why I broke it up into 3 podcasts. I wanted the listener to get an idea of what live comedy is REALLY like, so you’ll hear heckling, people walking out as soon as they hear my name, unfinished jokes and occasional bombing that eventually becomes crushing through sheer force of will… There’s small bits of overlapping material because I wanted the listener to hear how jokes evolve over time, though I’d wager about 75% of this stuff was made up on the spot, never to be repeated again… Honestly, I feel anxious and self-conscious about putting these recordings out there because this is the most honest I have ever been onstage…this is me in a nutshell. I may never be on TV or even headline a major club but I’m the only comedian IN HISTORY to do 6 minutes under the harsh spotlight of an LAPD chopper and you can hear it here!
