This track was just to demo the talkbox. I used the Talkbox with the Voyager, the synsonics, a Bass guitar, Rhodes and a Voyager lead, Trumpet and Saxaphone, recorded on the Roland VS840EX.
The Original Resisting Arrest was from my 1999 first album, but remixed here as it is a Rhythmicons Standard.

“Bolide” is a great progressive serenade of sounds, that has all the quality elements to build a superb production with great character, drive and pumping melodies that we so often seek for in this genre. They definitely strike and they strike hard with this monster.

“Anna” is another melodic production, filled with tension and quality as we always see from them. To their help with some work on the melodies they brought on their great friend Castalia. It’s absolutely gorgeous with a fantastic drive and flow and we couldn’t be happier than we are, to get Atlantis Ocean to join the family of PHW, a true pleasure!

COMBINING ATMOSPHERIC ELECTRONICS, INSISTENT GROOVES, VIRTUOSO SOLOING, STIRRING MELODIES & DIVERSE WORLD MUSIC INFLUENCES, TECHNICIANS OF THE SACRED IS THE NEW STUDIO RELEASE FROM THE STILL UNCLASSIFIABLE OZRIC TENTACLES

TECHNICIANS OF THE SACRED is the first all-new OZRIC TENTACLES album since 2011’s PAPER MONKEYS (and their first double album since their classic Erpland release of 1990), and comprises eleven tracks, with ninety minutes of music. Tracks such as Switchback, Rubbing Shoulders With The Infinite and Butterfly Garden are brilliant examples of the Ozrics musical art; pulsating rhythms and blissed-out tunefulness present and correct.

The band are to undertake a twenty-four date European tour in late April and May 2015, including twelve UK shows to promote the much-anticipated release of Technicians of the Sacred, with further gigs in the USA to follow.

Ozric Tentacles first came together at the Stonehenge Free Festival in 1983, and built an audience through selling privately produced cassettes of their music. Their talent for hypnotic, mantra-like grooves found kindred spirits in the British rave scene of the late 1980s, uniting the seemingly disparate ‘New Age’ Hippie and Rave audiences. Despite the lack of a hit single, media notoriety or the usual music business hype, much less major-label backing, their 1993 album Jurassic Shift was a UK top twenty album, and their hardcore audience is both dedicated and loyal to the band’s unique sound. At the core of the band’s music is an exploration of electronic musical textures and compulsive, danceable grooves interlaced with strong melodies and multi-ethnic musical references.

Due to be released through Madfish, Technicians of the Sacred is set to be released as a 2 disc digipack with the stunning mystical album artwork created by Ozric family member Natan, flowing through to the 8 panels of the digipack.

A track that evolved from building up layers of synth sequences. Wanted to create something floaty and meditative, but then I twisted it with an electro style beat. Has a vibe that recalls some of my tracks from around ten years ago, as well as the obvious nods to Tangerine Dream :) Though the beat is a bit more Kraftwerk.

Coming back from a dream ( piano soundscape )

In terms of capturing a Vangelis sound, I'm really happy with this one. Again as a fan of this sound it was a joy to make, and its nice to listen to these textures, and feel the mood. Very definitely "Blade Runner" inspired, again following a jazzy vibe like "Blade Runner" blues.
The Syd Mead artwork also evokes that rich textured world that Ridley Scott so successfully created.

Sidewalk Diner

I developed the main synth sequence for this over a couple of days, tweaking it until it had the right feel. Its very much Tangerine Dream inspired, but also in the same ball park is release by "Red Shift" who do a similar TD influenced thing. The sequence itself is very moody and dark, the subsequent layers that evolve add some melancholic melodic structure. The Mellotron figures quite heavily in the proceedings.

Veins

For a while I've pondered the idea of trying to do a piece of music to synchronize with the final "Star-gate Sequence" in the movie "2001 A Space Odyssey". Its one of my favorite films, and this sequence is still amazing. This idea, in a similar vein to Pink Floyd's "Echoes", isn't so much an alternative soundtrack, just another way of enjoying this sequence, as the original soundtrack for me is irreplaceable!
I set up a project in Ableton live using 1 instance of a Moog V for that typical TD sequence bass, a 2 instances of a VCS 3 doing a complimentary bass and an analogue lead, several Mellotrons (Gforce's Mtron Pro), with typical recognizable sounds such as the Choir, Flute, Vibes, Orchestra, Piano and some FX, and ARP2600 for FX and synth percussion. I also used several instances of Guitar Rig Pro to put everything through vintage style FX, to give it a vaguely grungy spacey feel.
With this set up I spent a few hours just playing, improvising and having fun... getting lost in all the swirling spaciness :)
I did a one take "live" recording of an arrangement and used this as the basis for the track. At this point I hadn't played along with the movie, it was just an arrangement of what felt right at the time.
I then put the music with the sequence in Premier and was quite surprised to see it kind of fit :)! I then added in some additional cues to help it and emphasise some parts, and also extended the track to the end of the sequence (my "live" version came to 14 mins).

Beyond The Infinite

Another piece using a similar setup to "Beyond The Infinite". This one has a TD sensibility but not entirely. Its doing its own thing in a vintage sort of way. Swirly Mellotrons, Moog Basslines, ARP rhythm elements.

Adrift

This is probably one of my most involved productions in a while. After creating a first take using predominantly Mellotron elements I built this track up with several layers of synths, string machines, drums and FX. I tried to retain the simplicity of the first version though :) All the parts are there to help guide an audio narrative, or create a sense of evolution in the track.
The tune itself has a sweet sadness to it which the Mellotron seems to thrive one, and when I first put this together it reminded me of, or suggested the film "Silent Running". Thats kind of where the title came from, albeit loosely.
It also rounds off a trio of tracks started with "Beyond The Infinite", so I guess this could be the Trumbull trilogy, after the FX maestro :)

The Horsemen

Star Watcher

So, was in the mood for something long, evolving, and sort of Tangerine Dreamy. Normally I go full on Mellotron, and bring out the Moogs, ARP's, and VCS3's (VST versions of course), but since I'm going through a Tal Bassline 101 phase (making tracks with just this synth alone), I decided to add to my "Room101" collection.
I guess its a bit self indulgent, so if you want to give it a go, make yourself comfortable, its pretty long :) 

Flood Plain

Decided to revisit the TD-verse of "Beyond the infinite". Its a progression of the ending sequence of 2001 A Space Odyssey, where Dave Bowman's unconsciousness has been used to create a sort of Human Zoo, where he eventually evolves to a higher level.
Expect Mellotron's, Moog's, VCS3's and general swirly, spacey ambient textures!

I do these hour long mixes every year or so featuring cover versions, sample-heavy tracks or songs that obviously owe a debt to the Dusseldorf quartet. Each mix is laced with spoken word, interviews or info about Kraftwerk too. 
I had the idea several years ago and the more I dug, the more I found, the amount of material out there is mind boggling. Not so strange for such an influential band who rarely release new material I suppose, fans have to fill the gap somehow. For anyone wanting to play catch-up, the first 5 volumes will be available at www.djfood.org with full artwork and track listings.
