Emmie, based in Ngunnawal, has been one of Canberra’s most flourishing selectors over the past two years. Emmie’s ability to mix and match more experimental, mind-bending and sinister prog, tek, electro, and dnb has landed Emmie as a regular at “sideway” - Canberra’s very own nightclub with international recognition for their quality acts, sound and culture. Emmie’s technical prowess and feminine touch has been sought after by organisers and audiences. This has landed Emmie on bills with some of the most prominent names in providing underground sounds, including: Higher Intelligence Agency, Helena Hauff, Woody 92, Sleep D, Object Blue, TSVI and Roza Terenzi. Chalkboard TT #002 -2SB (MCR)

Peachlyfe is a hydra-sonic electronic musician thats hook & seduced the Copenhagen fast-paced techno scene, claiming their seat along with the Fast Forward Agency. Peachlyfe’s productions and live sets rebelliously weave across genres, trippy melodies cut with heavy slaps while slithering whispers in your ears owing the dismantlement of the ‘cistem’. Their previous EPs “All Tits are Real, All Money is Fake, All Hail Satan”, “Swamplyfe”, and “Against All Reason” are odes to that anarchic playfulness, a marvellous feat in blending rave-rush joy and queer defiance.Their recent EP “Boī\_(ツ)_/ ̄” serves equal parts juicy techno and epic trance with that Peachlyfe trademark:The shenanigans are continuously brought to yet another level. 

This Chalkboard TT mix is a live recording from Petra’s set when we had the pleasure to host them at “sideways” earlier this year (02.09.2023). It was a treat to be able to show Petra our little city and it has been special to have stayed connected since. Chalkboard TT #003 - Quant & Qualia

Isaac (d.hyun), co-owner of Turning Tables, founded the collective during lockdown 2021. Turning Tables had its origin in Soundcloud Radio and showcased Nugunnawal’s (Canberra’s) DJs at house parties. When restrictions eased, floor-bending kitchen sets turned into club nights and parties in the paddock. Isaac has a preposterous love for tunes, with a mania for deep meditative groove. This hour Isaac has curated for Chalkboard displays his devotion to modern jungle, techno-infused drum and bass and IDM. Isaac has showcased the darker side of his collections with tracks that are heavier to digest but full of meaning. A selection that has intertwined dub-infused basslines and soulful percussion with futuristically digital and spacey techno and IDM elements. This mix pays homage to the foundations and the past whilst maintaining a forward-thinking perception towards jungle/DnB. A journey through percussive broken beats, experimental techno-dub, dark breaks and bouncy jungle - meditation.

Marcus Woodruff
squish is an amorphous rhizome currently residing in Seoul, South Korea. Ever since a brief yet formative dwelling in the coastal town of St Andrews, Scotland, she has found her primordial tendrils eternally entranced by the sonic ticklings of heavy bass and percussion. Having graduated from running post apocalyptic subterranean parties in basement pubs and grain silos, their monthly residency on @hkcr_online and appearances on @ehfm_live and @radioflouka have cemented a fervid, consuming attachment to all things drummy and dubby. 

A recent debut at @cakeshopseoul and some reflections on the nascent potential of Temporary Automomous Zones have inspired this mix which begins with some venomous jungle and ends on a healthy punch of dubstep, grime and UK bass.

Chalkboard TT #006 - squish (SEL)

Based on Ngunnawal Country, Mimosa is a dj and event organiser who loves the club. Founder of Hyphae (@__hyphae), she organises queer/femme led bass nights and wants to make safer, accessible parties the norm. Her selections are heavy and eclectic, usually characterised by sexy femme melodies, bass and percussion.

Music and dancefloors are inherently linked to resistance and community liberation. It’s impossible to enjoy music without thinking about its role in resisting colonialism and all the systems of oppression that reinforce each other. As genocide is being violently committed in Palestine, Congo, Sudan, West Papua and we continue to live on stolen Aboriginal land - We need to stand together in solidarity, in the music scene online and on dancefloors and at protests. This mix tries to pay homage to oppressed peoples across the world making music as a form of resistance. Colonialism must crumble, no one is free until everyone is free. 

From the river to the sea. Always and always will be.

Thumb is a Ngunnawal and Ngambri based DJ with a deep appreciation for more interesting dance floor oriented music and innovative sound design. A co-founder and one of the heads behind Ngunnawal and Ngambri based record label FITT Tek Records (@fitttek), he has toiled behind the scenes and in front for years in the local scene, playing and hosting parties, and becoming a well known face around town.
Here we are provided with an almighty 100 minute blend of breaks, dubs, wubs and IDM glitches. Moving effortlessly from high energy dancey freak outs to contemplative dubby space outs.

Sharing music is a wonderful thing. It's a powerful language that's at once very clear and ambiguous (I spend a lot of time reading people's Spotify playlists). My favourite part of selecting, then, is when you arrive at the point of being overwhelmed by the music. That's when the party begins. 

This mix features house tracks that make me really wanna dance. I think about house a lot. The heritage, the groove, the people. My friends who are learning house dance with me were on my mind when I was putting this together.

Micah Heathwood, is a producer, composer and
instrumentalist based in Ngunnawal/Ngambri
region, Canberra, Australia. Micah’s debut release
‘Club Oof’ boasts collaborations with Horatio
Luna and David Versace, performing to elated
crowds across Australia at venues and festivals
like Infinity Worm, Big Sound, Groovin the Moo,
The Night Cat, Sideway, Colour Club, and Black
Bear Lodge.

Micah has shared the stage with acts like Mildlife,
Shady Nasty, YL Hooi, Surprise Chef, Hybrid Man,
30/70, DJ Life, Don Glori, and Barney McAll.

I met Francesco (DJ Rou) on Via Altabella, Bologna, when I stumbled upon his record shop, L’Archivio 180. After observing a few records I had dug out, I was suddenly bombarded with recommendations. It was probably the most refreshing evening I had during my travels up until that point. Little did I know Francesco was one of the driving pillars in Bologna’s underground scene. Besides running his shop, DJ Rou is a producer, DJ, and coordinates the house/electro nights in the city. His dedication to tune hunting has given Francesco the skill and connections to have record bags full of tools, rare weapons, and single/forthcoming wax presses. This has made his selections sought after by promoters in clubs and festivals around Europe.
Francesco’s love and passion for music, his events, his store, and his city have inspired me. I am very excited for this first all-vinyl set on Chalkboard with DJ Rou. We are very lucky to get an hour of clubby wonky groovers recorded back in December at a private party in Bologna.

Living on Ngunnawal country, Fontenoy is the DJ alias of Sunburn co-founder, Rory Bolger. Outside of Sunburn’s local fixtures, Fontenoy’s sets unify a multitude of genres. His take on left-field electronica is hypnotic and undulating, intense yet delicate - A forward-thinking approach to synthesise elements of IDM, DNB, and rolling techno.

miss behave is an evolving dj from Eora. With a passion for pushing boundaries and experimenting with diverse sounds, miss behave is fast establishing herself as an eager and dynamic DJ. She holds a unique ability to seamlessly traverse through genres in her sets, making sure to have crowds moving through a range of speeds throughout. She experiments with a variety of sounds that all share a common theme of psychedelic influence across the realms of trance, techno, bass, breaks, dnb plus some more, blending and merging them to create energetic and intriguing soundscapes. 

This mix begins with some heavy broken bass and a quick flirt with psytrance before delving in the realms of throbbing squelchy idm influenced techno.

With influence taken from an ever growing industrial environment, Einadia’s sets are an individual reflection of this surrounding; enlisting the use of mechanical type sounds that vary the realms of IDM, broken beat techno and dub techno.

Creating on the land of the Gadigal people or so-called Sydney Australia, Gillielove melds the energy of a dancefloor through storytelling. Hypnotic grooves, dancehall rhythms, broken percussions, mutant basslines, oddball electronics and all things experimental are woven together to emerge a dancer’s revel in thought provoking soundscape. Moving through a range of styles and bpms, Gillie is known for seeking out the best new electronic releases and weaving them into a cohesive sonic narrative. A long-time staple of the best dancefloors in Sydney, Gillie started their journey recording mixes at home in 2020 before curating the Off Duty show on beloved independent station Nomad Radio and hosting artists like Mike Midnight, Sina, Ivy and Oliver Kay. Gillie has also recorded mixes for Lyl Radio, Triple J, Steeplejack, Pure Space, Transitions, Theory Therapy and Bleus. Making their debut supporting Toni Yotzi for Heavenly in 2020, Gillie has gone on to play festivals like Freedom Time NYE, Outsider, Woodburnia and Vivid Sydney, all whilst maintaining their roots in underground and DIY rave and warehouse spaces. Gillie played the first editions of now iconic Eora-based DIY party series run by Boof, General Merchant and Bump. In 2023, Off Duty ran it’s first event in collaboration with Tripl0cate Boorloo and hosted Dj Fart in the Club, Deep Creep, Toni Yotzi, Mike Midnight and Lia T. Gillie has supported artists like Lorraine James, DjRum, Batu, DJ Plead, Cassius Select, Underground Resistance, DJ Bone, Konduku, TSVI and MC Yallah. In 2023 Gillielove made their production debut alongside Command D, self- releasing the track L’s. ❤
