Acclaimed techno, dub and atmospheric craftsmen Voices From the Lake, aka Italians Donato Dozzy and Neel, are starting their own new label, Spazio Disponible. 

The label will start with a release from Voices From The Lake in March 2016, then a solo EP from Dozzy in May, but will be about much more than just putting out 12"s: it is a conceptual idea that will see friends of the duo release music, but will also be accompanied by a quarterly party at Goa in Rome. The first one will be March 18th where Donato and Giuseppe will play all night long with a close musical friend. 

More than that, though, the artists playing will be in the studio the whole week running up to the night, jamming and preparing music for the night and potentially producing a record that will later be put out on the label. The setup at Goa will be a hybrid of machines, live gear and DJ equipment that will allow for fluid transitions between each as the party unfolds. Essentially each event will be one big jam that features artists joining in and dipping out at will. Line-ups won't be announced for any of the nights, with the whole thing paying heed of the title, Spazio Disponibile. 

As for the first release, it features three tracks of absorbing and hypnotic deep techno that sucks you deep down into an organic world of super smooth sound. Subtly filled in with pixel thin synths, trance inducing bleeps or spaced out pads, it offers a fine taster of what to expect from Spazio Disponibile both on record and in the club.

Aimée Portioli also known as Grand River, is a Dutch-Italian composer, musician, producer based in Berlin. 

While mainly connected to the fields of electronic music and sound design, her compositions transcend these genres. Her background counts years of traditional music composing and the study of several musical instruments. 

She worked as sound engineer and composer for a national radio station in Italy (Radio 24) and for several post production companies through her sound agency TapTempo studio. Her work is known equally for her film scores as for her experimental and ambient projects. Influenced by classical minimal music Grand River’s work integrates a large variety of sound structures and symphonic calculations, often blurring the lines between traditional composition and research-based modernism. 

In 2016 she created One Instrument releasing sound experiments from different artists composing pieces by using only one instrument of their choice.

The biggest, most badass love goes out to Sam KDC who has gifted us with an absolutely astounding podcast (#064) ahead of his On the 5th Day appearance at Corsica Studios on September 1st. If you’ve been an avid collector of game-changing, quality techno and experimental over recent years then you’ll most likely know the score. Sam KDC (aka Samuel Wood) is a devoted boundary pusher within the electronic music field, producing since 2002 and making his own solid and hugely significant mark during the years that followed. Working closely alongside fellow musician ASC (James Clements), Sam KDC played a critical role in shaping the revolutionary vision of ASC’s Auxiliary label, contributing a multitude of releases along the way, helping to ensure it became the go to for deep, “outside the box” techno that it is today. He and ASC are also the pioneers behind the unique style that inspired Grey Area, a label collaboration between Samurai and Auxiliary, uniting 128 bpm with 170/85 bpm in a seamless, polyrhythmic, big impact manner.

As demonstrated herewith, Sam KDC’s mind-bending approach to techno and experimental, and the characteristics and complexities of his style - with its multiple BPMs and dynamic, shifting hearty pulse - culminate in an almighty rhythmic hurricane fuelled by a strong emotional power, sweeping you through mountainous peaks and caverns before releasing you in a breathless heap on the floor! His meticulously controlled sets, vibrating with depth and tension make it impossible to turn your attention elsewhere… and the good news is there’s plenty more where this came from when Sam is united with Corsica’s better than ever almighty sound system on September 1st. With releases on the likes of Semantica, Hypnus Records, Mental Modern and Prologue, to name but a few, Backdrop is a dedicated studio dweller, forming strong bonds with multiple synthesisers over the years in order to develop the Alan Backdrop sound his loyal followers have grown to love.
