About the CD:
Another CD to be added to the classic series. Again coming from the most excellent mix mag series. This one features Danny Rampling, who played a massive part in my house education thanks to not only the seminal 'Love Groove Dance Party' show on Radio 1 (Saturday nights) but also his quintessential British and Balearic style of house. You were indeed... my favourite UK dj for a good few years. Both mixes have a vibe which feels fresh and original but still high on energy and get pretty full on pretty quick. Kind of latin, kind of techno... it's a great 2 mixes here which may have flew under many people's radar. Enjoy.

About the CD:
So back in the day Deep Dish were one of those mythical dj partnerships we didnt get to see too much in the UK but were held up there with the likes of Danny Tenaglia and of course the UK god's that were Sasha and Digweed. Label bosses of the excellent Yoshitoshi records and regular faces on the legendary Global Ungerground cd's. Although this disc doesn't go down as an all time favourite for me it does define the late 90's and some great times clubbing which is certainly enough to get into the series.

About the CD:
In homage to Shindig's epic booking of Danny Tenaglia I felt it was fitting to share what is one of the most powerful and dominating mixes of all time. Nothing say's 'I'm untouchable' like no other gone before and probably still holds strong as a contender for that crown today. As a UK clubber mostly my only memory of seeing DT was his flashlight antics at Homelands, Winchester around 1999. Unfortunately that was a little too hazy than I would I liked. So it's with great sadness I'll be missing his upcoming gig at Warehouse 34 in Newcastle. But wish everyone else going a fucking brilliant night.

About the CD:
So the truth is we actually uploaded this by accident instead of Sasha's GU009 San Francisco disc... but as it got so many plays we thought it only fair to get it back up asap. The album cover, Space Ibiza sponsorship and epic Ibiza setting for the Global Underground series felt like it had come home when this release came out. The stars were aligned, everyone was buying it, and everyone was still mesmerised by Sasha's sound unlike any other dj in the world. It was magical, dreamy, dark and epic. Listening back to it makes you want to be 19 and on a plane to Ibiza... enjoy the mix. x

About the cd:
A superb surprise episode for 041 in the series. Massive thanks to Nick Sneddon for sending over some epic CDs recently. We are really happy to feature more downtempo CDs... it feels like the recovery soundtrack to countless nights clubbing and those sun kissed days that followed (well maybe not so much if you grew up in the UK).

Considering this came out in 1996, it features some simply gorgeous deep house and laid back electronic which go onto cement why DJ Harvey is a cult dj amongst fans and fellow spinners. It's a pleasure not just remember my own collection, but have other people send in theirs. And it's even better discovering that there's hundreds of other classics out there which need to be shared with everyone. Thanks again for the good vibes.

I remember Chris Duckenfield getting booked by the Ward 10 lasts in Sunderland in the early 00's and after going onto hear a few more of his mixes it was clear he was a heavyweight that lurked firmly in the underground but resonated certainly across the UK and Europe.

DJ Colette LIVE from Austin, TX. Well sort of. Let's just say she took what happened and recreated it in a vacuum. I can't imagine another headliner talent being so gracious. There's a reason she comes here no less than once a year. People know her and love what she brings to the table and they just can't get enough!

Classicaly trained from an early age, she started singing over DJ's sets in Chicago while still in high school. After graduating college it was GAME ON and she's never looked back. This is a rare treat we have to get a mix set because she doesn't make them often. Pass it around and let people know yo!

001 of the Classic Mix CD collection. This mix immediately sprung to mind and an major contender for all time favourite mix CD. (It's seems like a few of you guys think the same). A hands in the air, feel good garage (and house) banger with many many memories attached. About the CD:
002 of the Classic Mix CD Series and yet another absolute stand out classic. After getting into house at around 15, I guess my only source of info was Danny Rampling's seminal LGDP (Love Groove Dance Party) Saturday nights on Radio 1. However I can't remember Carter getting much coverage on there, yet he, much like Danny Tenaglia seemed to have a level of legend unlike most. This CD cemented my love of house music with an all might smash in the face. The tempo, the bass, the disco, the filters, and fucked up vocals... this was heavyweight. Nothing could compete at the time. I'll always remember driving to college with my 2 nerdy class mates and insisting they played this CD in the car. I'm raving in the back and they are like "What the fuck is this shit, turn it down!". It's with immense pleasure that DJ's like Sneak and Carter seem to be booking all the massive clubs and parties again. I'm not so keen on the whole 'I'm a House Gangster' vibe... but this is as bad as it gets.

About the CD:
So I was originally going to upload the very first mix CD I EVER bought... (Well actually won from a competition on Wear FM's tuesday night dance show). That CD was the massively influential 'Havin'It in the UK 1' and pretty much the first piece of house music I ever owned. I can remember thinking 'This is a bit slow' being a rave a jungle fan at the time... but I was already aware of housier sounds through some of my uncles holiday mix tapes. So i listened to it, and fell in love with the classics which many people know today. Tracks like MK's 'Always', 24 Hour Experience's "Together', Happy Clapper's 'I Believe' etc etc. So I thought I'd upload another CD from the series 'Stateside' mixes. A more garage feel, and massively relevant right now with alot of DJ's like BICEP, Tensnake etc digging deep back into this older original house sound. Massively feel good, massively dance floor, hands in the air house music. Enjoy!

About the CD:
005 of the 'Classic Mix CD' collection brings a much slower affair. From the superb 'Back To Mine' CD series. The first I purchased was actually Danny Tenaglia's disc, which I bought out of curiosity being a fan of his house DJ sets. That disc almost made it here, but it was the Groove Armada release which really got hammered on my old Sony stereo. No other disc reminds me of lazy summer sundays more than this. And it was really the first musical selection that steered me towards collecting and playing a mix of music all together. Going from A Tribe Called Quest, into Barry White's incredible "Playing Your Game Baby" then house and other genre's coming in.... really resonated with me and elevated the way I put music together. Both listening to and playing out. A truly seminal release.

005 of the Classic Mix CD Series on Soundcloud. Another from 1996 which is probably lesser well known and even lesser played, but without doubt one of the most memorable CDs in my collection. It comes from the sublime MixMag Live series and features Roger Sanchez aka S-Man when he was at the height of his powers (or just approaching them) and the legendary DJ Pierre. I always remember tracks like "Fill Me" and "Time to Stop" from Sanchez and the euphoric "Freestyle Groove" by Full Swing... engulfing me in the US house sound. Seminal music which will never be forgotten.

In 2009, I consulted for, and appeared in, Activision's DJ Hero video game.   As part of my involvement, I performed at quite a few industry events and eventually did a couple of club dates.  Some of these sets were more rehearsed than others, and the quality varied.  This one, recorded live on Halloween night at a KCRW benefit, was far and away my favorite of the bunch...both in terms of technical display and song selection.  I'll post some of the other recorded sets later, there's some nice moments along the way.- DJ Shadow

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
