DJ and producer, Terry Farley heads back to the 'second summer of love' and celebrates some of the biggest Acid House tracks, 25 years on.

Along with Andrew Weatherall, the duo started the now notorious Boy's Own fanzine in 1986, which commented on the slang, the parties, the tunes and the humour of the acid house days, and which also lead to the creation of the label Junior Boys Own. This imprint specialised in dance music and put out records by Orbital and Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers, which celebrates 15 years this year.

Terry began making productions with Andy Weatherall, Hugo Nicholson and Pete Heller under the name Bocca Juniors. He later teamed up with Pete Heller and has gone on to re-mix many of the world's leading artists and singers: everyone from U2 to New Order; to the Happy Mondays and Primal Scream at the height of Balearica. He has also produced Kylie Minogue, The Farm and M People.

Last month on the 13th of October, we invited house music hero & all round good guy Derrick Carter to bring his 'Derrick Does Disco' party to the Sub Club helping to celebrate GLASGAY! 20th Anniversary.

The source of many a man-crush (particularly from our local DJ geeks and record freaks) our sexy affair with Derrick has spanned a good couple of decades. Perhaps it’s his desirable physique, that intense beaded brow around 2am or his disarmingly charming manliness from the moment we met him off the plane.

Either way we’re always hot for him and so was everyone in the crowd who joined us as we got down and dirty in a darkened room and showed each other some serious loving, with no strings attached till 3am.

With Derrick in control for the full four hours we had to get the roadblocks out. Here is an hour of this amazing set specially picked out by the one man block party himself.

"The reason I selected this for the series was, for myself, it being personal time piece, the quality of the tracks and the mix being consistently good. Building through some great soulful house vocals and dubs into some deep cuts that haven't dated since it's release in 2002. Having quite a few of these on vinyl picked up around the time, including Mindflight's "Release", Derrick White's "Soul 2 Let Go" and Kerri Chandler's "Atmospheric Beats" the mix by silky deep house man Miguel Migs was never far from the earlobes at the time. And being released on the ever consistently good Naked Music label, its great from start to finish. A true reflection of the kinds of tracks I played out in sets when I started out DJing. Enjoy!!" Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
