Re-loading this now mixes on SoundCloud seem to have some breathing space. It's the third mix in the 'One for the Ladies' mix take a 'Dubai Ladies Night' twist, banging out class chart from the 80's, 90's and beyond that the lasses love mixed in with a few cooler numbers like Slum Village amongst others.

It also pretty much sums up the vibe down at LeftBank on a Wednesday night where I used to play.

Future jazz, trip hop, jazz, downtempo and soul from LTJ Bukem's excellent 'Cookin Records'. Taken from the first 12 ep's I fanatically collected from my first days of buying vinyl circa 2003. Including tracks from White Rhino, Cedar, Solaris, Nookie and many more.

The Classic Mix CD Series presents... Mode 7. A new identity and sound project from Gareth Davies.

Mode 7 was a graphics technique developed in the early 1990s by Japanese software engineers. Allowing 2D pixels to be manipulated to create new dimensions and experiences. Never before seen during the vintage 16bit gaming era.

What's more, it's a way to remove any personal naming to real world djing gigs. A counter effort to distance myself from a dire lack of creativity in the music selection landscape and the thirst to profit from DJ culture.

About the mix:
These tracks reflect some of my favourite, original sounds from recent months and allow me to further explore the classic 90s rave and ambient sound by bringing together forward thinking artists I admire.

My first ever mix! Done circa 2004 at the time we were putting on parties down The Bonded Warehouse (Sunderland Uni's riverside bar). It represents many of my first vinyl purchases. Some heavy coverage from early Groove Armada, alot of left field hip hop, beats and downtempo stuff. Plus some of the Late Night Tales / Another Late Night EP's which were released around the same time. It's even got some half decent and well timed attempts of scratching! (I say half decent for a beginner anyway). A true blast from the past indeed!

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
