About the CD:
For our 23rd episode we once again asked a friend of the site for their favourite all time CD. Andy Buchan is editor of Dubai's leading music and events publication, the fortnightly Infusion magazine. He's written for Mix Mag, DJ mag and Q magazine so he know's a thing or two about music. He's also one of the Dubai's best DJ's. Running his award winning alternative night Loaded and the famous dubstep and bass night SYNF amongst others. Andy has warmed up for anyone and everyone from 2ManyDJ's, to Norman Jay, Beardyman to Chase and Status and held down residencies at pretty much every quality venue in Dubai.

He originally picked Francios K's Choice disc... but as we just had a Choice disc from our last guest (We Luv's Ian Blevins) he also recommended Francios K's superb Essential Mix (Disc One). Which is a storming journey of starting with house and quickly moving into funk, disco, soul and everything in between. With from James Brown, Level 42, Maurizio, George Benson, Chaka Khan, Kyoto Jazz Massive to name a few... it's easy to see why Francios K has formed such legendary status with many of the finest selectors out there. If you love this mix... you're amongst very good company. Salute!

094 - Journeys by DJ: After Hours (1995)

Ahead of our appearance on the 8th October at Defected Malta where we host a house foundations (86-96) stage, Stuart Patterson has compiled a mix of some Faith favourites from the period.  100% vinyl it takes in early vocals from Intense, Tammy Banks and Velma Wright, deepness from Precious and Swing 52.  Darker and tribal sounds from Funky Green Dogs and Kiwi Dreams, a touch of wild pitch from DJ Pierre in his Phuture Scope guise and a drop of acid from The Endless Poker. Plus plenty more early house joints that help shaped the house music phenomenon  that still stands strong today.

Sharing our own personal take on dj mixes which we've grown up listening to, and sometimes doing ourselves. For the third instalment of the new _SESSIONS series we invited old friend Eddie Leader from Hudd Traxx for what is a mix of the highest house calibre. We originally met in the early 2000s in our student years, djing at our local party and since then Eddie has gone on to run a successful label, Hudd Traxx for over 12 years now and dj all around the world.

The label has received worldwide support from DJ's like Luciano, Loco Dice, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Josh Wink & more. Hudd Traxx music has been licensed to various compilations including Ministry Of Sound, Fabric & OM. If that's not house music royalty we don't know what is.

SESSIONS_04 comes from friend of the show, Antony Daly aka 586 of the most excellent 586 Records in Newcastle, England. We've actually had this on the iPod for years but Tony has very kindly offered it up again for a re-airing. It really it quite seminal stuff. Be sure to call into 586 Records when you're in town and here's a few words from the man himself...

'Recorded, late into the Night, January 2003. A live, one hit mix via Suade's Studio in Sandyford, Newcastle upon Tyne. A personal soundtrack to a difficult time in my life. Poor health and unrequited love. Hopefully, the lyrics in these great songs and the overall mood of the mix, reflect that. Enjoy and thanks for listening'.

For the 5th instalment, we hooked up with Dubai's number one hat wearing, vinyl addict... Shadi Megallaa. He's got links to some of the city's finest musical happenings, such as the immensely good Analog Room (which is nothing short of a Dubai institution) and also runs the Ark to Ashes label. This mix called... 'Less is More' is over 15 years old, yet remains one of his favourite personal selections. We agree, it's exceptional. Many thanks fella!

Some words from Shadi:
'Less is More is my 2nd proper mix from back in the early 2000s. The 1st one being a mix called Impulse. It was recorded on a Philips CDR 775 Recorder. Back in those days there were no daws or digital recording. The mix was recorded in real time on a cd. One mistake & you had to throw away the cd and start all over.  I guess you can feel that tension in the mix & hence why it still sounds good almost 15 years later. Hope you enjoy it.'

_SESSIONS brings forward one of our home town's finest house and electronic selectors. Someone we've been a fan of since first hearing play around 2002 in Sunderland, North East England. A time when 2 crews were re-igniting quality music in our city centre, young, full of enthusiasm and who shared a massive mutual appreciation of the very finest house music.

Ryan shares with us an almost 3 hour selection of twists and turns, diving deep into his collection. Here's a few words from Ryan on the mix:

'Not really a DJ mix, more a compilation or journey I suppose. Nothing thought out just a start and end and see where it goes. Through early ambiance, atmospherics, trip hop, building up to more up beat early trance to housey doings. Starts with Less Stress - A New Dream, a tune I heard when I was possibly 12 years old on a cassette mix I still listen to by a man who nobody knows. Journeys through FSOL, Ozric Tentacles, Kate Bush, Leftfield, Nick Holder, Steve Rachmad, Syclops, to name few. Ends with a band that shaped mine and my mates youth, from the one and only Underworld.'

GarethisOnit / Mode 7:
Digital creative type, gamer, music lover and occasional DJ. Currently living in Dubai after setting sail from Sunderland in 2010.
