People who dedicate themselves fully to creating transcendent experiences for their audiences are a rarity, and Van Anh is no exception. Our friends acquainted with the Netherlands' thriving ambient & techno scene will undoubtedly be familiar with Van Anh and her ISOTOOP collective, who together have built events ranging from 12-hour overnight ambient excursions to 'Under the Desert Stars,' a one-off festival in the Moroccan desert. For those of us dreaming of her events from afar, the expert curator shares this dive through her record collection, and in it I hear that boundless creative spirit, the simmering anticipation, the drive to create memories that connect us for a lifetime.

With our 15th episode, we welcome another very talented artist to our Herbarium series. It is @alkini, the label head of the fabulous imprint @a-biotic. In his journey, he leads us through many different stages of consciousness, mixing intriguing beatless pieces with hypnotic rhyhthms.

Alkini chose the plant Lavender / Lavandula for this trip. Some words about it from his side:
'Various influences, various hues. 
I wanted to write something that resonates with myself using music that I admire.

Its color being my favorite and its scent never leaving me indifferent, lavender is the plant that brings back the most memories for me. 
It originates from Provence, in the south of France. A familiar place to me.

Originating from the western Mediterranean basin, lavender was already used by the Romans to preserve linen and scent baths. 
In Provence, lavender was employed in the Middle Ages for the production of perfumes and medicines, but it wasn't until the 19th century that its cultivation expanded.'

"Echoes of Nothingness" is, for me, an inner journey—an answer to an ancient call heard in the desert, among the dunes. That voice lingers in the whispers of the wind, in the stillness and motion of drifting sands, in the radiant presence of the sun, and in the silent smile of a skull resting on the earth.

For years, I’ve sought to move beyond the meanings of words, to encounter phenomena as they are. The titles of the tracks were chosen with care—not to define, but to offer gentle coordinates toward intuitive experience.

The album’s cover and booklet are inspired by the motifs of Iranian and Afghan Gabbeh—an interplay of simplicity, earth, and quiet symbols woven in silence.

“Wou ass den Mëllen?” ("Where is the insane one?") is a tape-warped sonic snapshot of a neighbourhood slipping into collective unease. Built from lo-fi recordings, background murmurs, and unstable rhythms, the piece captures the creeping paranoia and whispered accusations that echo behind curtains and closed windows.

Fragments of speech and pitched-down textures suggest something — or someone — is not quite right. But the question lingers unanswered: Is it them, or is it you?

A distorted reflection of suburban silence, this track invites you to eavesdrop on the subtle madness just beneath the surface.
