Discos Capablanca return with a record from the mysterious Detroit-based Sharif Laffrey (we know little more than his place of birth, and that he likes to ride his bike and warm weather) who brings the heat on the Turn It Up 12". Recorded in Detroit in the late 80s and released on a cassette tape compilation in 1988, the original "Turn It Up" is a long forgotten gem from the period that Electro was beginning to morph and mutate into nascent forms of Techno. Excavated by Hugo Capablanca's label, the track is presented in an edited version that stays true to the original and complemented by an Acid Dub Not Dub version that implements plenty of deranged 303 action.

A timeless deep house track with a powerful message, Manchild (In The Promise Land) is a brand new creation from two of Chicago House music’s true architects, Ron Trent & Lono Brazil.

Getting his start as a DJ in the mid 80s while still a teenager, Ron Trent quickly turned his hand to production, studying percussion and keyboards; skills which define his distinctive, melodic compositions to this day. Founding Prescription Records with Chez Damier in ’93 and sister label Balance soon after, he helped introduce talents such as Moodymann, Pevan Everett and Luke Solomon to a global audience. Ron Trent’s career has gone from strength to strength over the last three decades, DJing all over the globe while continuing to push boundaries with his productions and remixes.

Mentored by none other than Frankie Knuckles and a close associate of the great Ron Hardy, Lono Brazil’s musical roots touch the very foundations of House Music. A true cultural ambassador, over the years Lono has produced shows with legendary artist Keith Haring, worked as an executive for Capitol/EMI and helped kick-start the recent disco revival from a small dive bar in Chicago’s North side, not to mention walking the runways of New York, Milan, London and Tokyo as a high fashion model.

Afro-centric house in its purest form, Manchild (In The Promised Land) is characterised by Lono Brazil’s golden voice and original spoken word poetry which paints a moving picture of urban deprivation and stolen childhood. Subtle synth chords shimmer behind the jazz influenced bass-line and warm percussion that seems to play ‘call and response’ with the vocal.

Fresh from appearing on Boiler Room Tokyo back in April, talented and in-demand Japanese husband and wife duo ‘Dazzle Drums’ provide a deep and tribal dub version of ‘Manchild’, steadily building up a compelling drum groove before taking flight into synth-heaven.

Indicate - The Latest Idea (1989)

This version slept on my harddisk for some weeks, and I worked on it a few days ago. Again, with the principles of endless recycling and re-using existing material, this version seems to be quite fresh, but including some familiar sounds at the same time.

The good thing about this series is that with each track, the possibilities and ideas strongly potentiate themselves upwards, since in each new version the merged sound material of different older versions is brought together, which in consequence is again the ground for a new version and the spectrum is enlarged again - that's why there are so many aspects in the Wanderer's Path series. 

From a certain number of tracks, it is simply impossible to exhaust all resources in this diversity. I still have ideas for 10 or 20 further titles, but I'd like to finish the series now and publish it in a big release with several CDs. Therefore, when I make new versions or finish old ones, I try to keep the spirit of the piece in which it was forged, even if one or the other was started long ago. In a way, this also shows how my musical fingerprint has evolved and changed over the years, and which remained the same as my own principles, since the WP has now emerged as my biggest ongoing project since 2012, to illustrate the diversity of the stories and to emphasize aspects. 

Still, I am very excited about the idea of ​​recycling music in nature and of using old vintage equipment and synthesizers with the right spice on the one hand and sampling my own works over and over again because working with samples is one thing very nice thing.
