This page presents the music of Christos Gavanas, 1976-2001. Christos was about to release his album in 2001 but died unexpectedly in a motorcycle accident before he had a chance to introduce his sounds to the world. Before his death Christos had been active as an electronic music producer for a few years. As a matter of fact, the night he died Christos was working on a new track and was on his way to play it to a friend. He died with his music on a floppy disc in his pocket and noone has ever listened to it. 
In 2011 Meerkat Recordings (Gavana and Aimnbreak) will remaster and release Christos album, and until then we will release some remixes of Christos tracks by Gavana, Aimnbreak and DJplaneten. This way Christos will be among us and remembered through the presence and impact of his sounds. 
This remix/remaster/release project is undertaken by his sisters, Anna and Elin Gavanas, and Peter Ericson (Aimnbreak). The project is made possible because Elin has saved Christos computer for all these years and brought it with her wherever she moved. It is also made possible because Peter was able to open the computer, save the hard drive and restore Christos original files.

Gavana (Anna Gavanas) is currently involved in the live rebetiko project Thessaly Hifi and occasionally appears as a vinyl DJ at Klubb Maqam and other dub/ electronica/ eastern meditteranean music events. 
Gavana has been making music since 2004 and released five EPs on the Swedish label Meerkat Recordings. Gavana's fifth and fourth EPs, Greek Dub and Greek Acid follows up on her previous EPs Malaga Nights, Culture Vulture and Vicious Vibrations.Over the years, Gavanas' music has been played by Swedish National Radio’s "P3 med Samir" and  ”Elektroniskt i P2”. The track El Andaluz from Malaga Nights became a hit in Colombia (!) and the EP was listed as ”hot pick” by Sattelite Records in New York. 

Gavana has also remixed other artists (Donna Maya, Carosnatch and Rona Geffen) as well as her brother Christos Gavanas (1975-2001 RIP). She has also released music as part of the duos Pufferfisk and Bass Trolls.

As a producer, Gavanas comes from  a non-stop DJ mission since the 1990s: immersed in endless musical explorations forwards, backwards and sideways. Having lived through numerous phases, club cultures and cities -- in Stockholm, New York, Amsterdam, Chicago, Leeds and London -- she combines a broad range of styles between garage/ house/ techno as well as UK steppers dub and dancehall.

Bass Trolls is a DIY live-and studio band consisting of Aimnbreak (Peter Eriksson) and Gavana (Anna Gavanas). Both members come from a background as vinyl DJs and music producers. For the Bass Trolls project we play all instruments, program all synthesizers and do all analog mixing and mastering ourselves. We also collaborate with a number of vocalists and MCs.

Bass Trolls’ earlier releases have been played at Swedish National Radio (“Ström i P2,” 26 dec 2012) and covered in the music magazine Soundofmusic, Kristofer Andersson’s book ”DIY” (Modernista 2013) and in Dancecult, the international journal on Electronic Dance Music Culture (see link below). Our music has also been played at the Clandestino Festival in Göteborg as well as the Norberg Festival, Culture Night Stockholm and Museum Lunch Beat in Stockholm. 

Like Meerkats in the Kalahari we fiercely promote subversive dubs from underground headquarters constantly relocated in the world. Following the sound system tradition, Meerkat Recordings is a platform for artists with a purpose beyond the music industry. Like sound system culture, Meerkat Recordings is dedicated to the BASS as a voice of the people.

DJplaneten is a DJ/producer duo consisting of DJ Gavana and DJ Aimnbreak. We produce genre transgressive music heavily influenced by dub, dubstep, jungle, jazz, hillbilly blues, hip hop and dancehall: all faced with a full-on headbutt. 

We play our own music live and also have a long history as vinyl DJs.
