Our No. 224 comes today from an artist who accompanies me for what feels like an eternity and since then always knows how to inspire with his new productions. You can definitely call him a connoisseur of downtempo, because he stands for me emblematic for the rise of the subgenre and has shaped the scene globally with his countless pieces - no still does.

We are talking about Niju who is always good for a surprise with his very special, organic but mega fascinating sound. No matter if alone or together with Ninze & Okaxy as Wide Awake (@wide-awake-8), he always provides with his playful and atmospheric way in his productions, remixes, edits and also sets for special experiences on the dancefloors, living rooms, bedrooms as well actually on all ears in the world. At least on all those who can appreciate downtempo. Definitely for me as a big downbeat fan. Then, now and tomorrow definitely too. I'm sure of it.

His set recorded for us is emblematic of his sound. To me, the whole tape basically feels like a typical Niju production, only in XXXXXXL format. At the beginning velvet soft and dreamy, yet discreet groovy and later from and then also danceable. And all garnished with a good portion of hypnotic elements like cranky voices and partly indefinable sound fragments. Great. Definitely a typical Niju, who joins our podcast series with his 2.5 hour journey like painted.

Buckle up... I can only repeat myself, but you can expect a journey made for an afterhour. Not a phrase, not fake news, but honest words from a music loving Spessarter.

Unsere Nr. 224 kommt heute von einem Künstler welcher mich seit einer gefühlten Ewigkeit begleitet und seither immer wieder mit seinen neuen Produktionen zu begeistern versteht. Man kann ihn definitiv als Connaisseur des Downtempo’s bezeichnen, da er für mich sinnbildlich für den Aufstieg des Subgenre steht und mit seinen unzähligen Stücken die Szene global geprägt hat – nein immer noch tut.

Die Rede ist von Niju  der mit seinem ganz speziellen, organischen aber mega faszinierenden Sound immer wieder für eine Überraschung gut ist. Egal ob alleine oder zusammen mit Ninze & Okaxy als Wide Awake (https://soundcloud.com/wide-awake-8), so sorgt er stets mit seiner verspielten und stimmungsvollen Art in seinen Produktionen, Remixen, Edits und auch Sets für besondere Erlebnisse auf den Dancefloors, Wohnzimmern, Schlafzimmern….ja eigentlich auf allen Ohren der Welt. Zumindest auf all denjenigen, die dem Downtempo etwas abgewinnen können. Für mich als großen Downbeat Fan definitiv. Damals, heute und morgen auch. Da bin ich mir sicher. 

Sein für uns aufgenommenes Set steht sinnbildlich für seinen Sound. Mir kommt das ganze Tape im Grunde vor wie eine typische Niju Produktion, nur im XXXXXXL Format. Anfangs samt weich und verträumt, dennoch dezent groovig und später ab und dann auch tanzbar. Und alles garniert mit einer gehörigen Portion an hypnotischen Elementen wie verschrobenen Stimmen und teils undefinierbaren Klangfetzen. Klasse. Definitiv ein typischer Niju, der sich mit seiner 2,5 stündigen Reise wie gemalt in unsere Podcast Reihe einreiht. 

Schnallt euch an… Ich kann mich nur wiederholen, aber es erwartet euch eine Reise, die wie gemacht für eine Afterhour ist. Keine Phrase, keine Fake-News, sondern ehrliche Worte eines musikverliebten Spessarters.

Ich danke dir vielmals Niko für dieses besondere Set. Umwerfend tiefenergreifend und erfrischend gut. Chapeu.

This is what I’ve been working towards lately, and I couldn’t have wished for a better time & place to share it for the very first time. Creating and playing this Live Set was absolute fun, and the entire process has been an incredible learning experience.

This is the sound journey Birds Of Mind created for Eva Kaczor's PSYCHEDELIC BREATH in collaboration with ICBRKR App.

It launched at sunset on Tulum's beach, taking a beautiful community into an altered state of consciousness. It marked the beautiful closing of a day retreat that Eva and ICBRKR had designed together.

This is the soundtrack I made for the Psychedelic Breath session I did with the amazing Eva Kaczor at The Monastery Festival of The Gardens of Babylon. 

I can still see myself standing there, overlooking that beautiful big barn. This was for sure one of the most powerful musical experiences I have ever experienced on stage. Normally during my sets I have the tendency to fly. The music takes me away, energies rise, and I enter a state of flow where everything just happens naturally. This is a beautiful thing! What made this sound journey so different was that instead of flying I was feeling very grounded. This groundedness enabled me to really deeply experience this journey and it’s impact on us. Sharing this with so many people at the same time makes it so much stronger.   

It is crazy how something so fundamental to our lives, our breath, becomes such a powerful tool when used consciously. This technique is a shortcut to enter a sort of dreamy state in your brain, in which you are neither awake nor asleep: the theta state. This meditative state is the gateway to your creativity, learning and intuition, and it allows you to access the power of your unconscious mind.

PSYCHEDELIC BREATH is Eva Kaczor’s own mix of dynamic breathing techniques from ancient traditions and contemporary science fused with evocative electronic music sets, she creates in collaboration with artists such as Acid Pauli and Birds of Mind. There are 11 cycles in the sound journey each cycle consisting of dynamic and relaxing sections. In the dynamic sections there is a deep beat you breathe intensely. The relaxing section is more ambient and you let your breath out and then finally hold it in before you enter the dynamic section of the new cycle. If you listen carefully you can hear a windchime/bell which indicates that the journey is moving into the next dynamic or relaxing section. Enjoy

I just returned from the magical Bonjuk Bay. This place is something else. The nature, the people, the love. So much beauty. It felt like returning to the essence of life. 

There were many magical moments but this sunset set is something I will never forget. Standing in-between the palm trees, looking at all these beautiful people dancing, celebrating the last moments of sunshine before we fade into the night.

My heart is filled with gratitude.

One year ago our crew had a chance to reunite with our Berlin based member @claus-fussek and bring to life a new project called "Baila Lentamente". This joint venture of Claus, Heimlich Knüller and Mach Mal Langsam Collective was started to decelerate the Black Floor of @wilderenate. This unforgettable night, full of Audio-visual entertainment was a firework of joy and happiness! 

Actually, the whole night was recorded but the SD-Card disappeared mysteriously. Some days ago, exactly to the anniversary of the event we found the recordings again.

Thanks to this marvelous occasion we want to reactivate our MIX-Series "MUY APRECIADO (Mixed by our friends)" and share with you two wonderful hours of slow down grooves by our Hero for All Times Mr.@heimlich-muller. Enjoy the show!
