Dedun (or Dedwen) was a Nubian god worshipped during ancient times in that part of Africa and attested as early as 2400 BC. The earliest known information in Egyptian writings about Dedun indicates that he already had become a god of incense by the time of the writings. Since at this historical point, incense was an extremely expensive luxury commodity and Nubia was the source of much of it, he was quite an important deity.

While travelling America last year we stumbled across Sugar Candy Mountain playing at an Echo Park record store and were instantly hooked. Always at the back of our mind we got in contact this year and to our delight had timed a speculative email to perfection as the band had just finished recording new album ‘666’ It’s a stunning record which we are delighted to be releasing on cassette in the UK this June. Ahead of that we’ll be releasing a single titled ‘Eye On You’ on octagon shaped white vinyl, as with all our releases this will be ultra limited. 

Eye on You is a perfect slice of sunshine indie-pop sounding like The Pastels or Camera Obscura if they had come from California rather than Scotland. 

Here’s a little more about the band…

Sugar Candy Mountain deliver carefully built psychedelic odes bringing to mind Abbey Road era Beatles and more recent acts such as Cate Le Bon and Frankie Cosmos. 666 feels like something unearthed from a box of records found in your dad’s garage, glowing wistfully with vintage inspired tones, rambling organs, fuzzed out guitars, shimmering keys and sprawling drums. Ash Reiter’s woolly voice croons with icy warmth of Francoise Hardy, while Will Halsey’s tender Lennon-esque vocals uncoil with easy languor. Recorded with Jason Quever of Papercuts, the bands sophomore album sits comfortably between 60’s Laurel Canyon bliss and the more modern production of Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips/Tame Impala).
