Reggae Roast, one of the UKs leading Reggae Soundsystems & party starters, have forged a reputation as the leading light in the resurgence of the British Reggae, putting on some of the best parties and festival stages across the country. Having recently signed to the world famous Trojan Records they are at the forefront of the UK Reggae and Bass Music scene.

Reggae Roast’s first release on Trojan, went straight in at #1 on the Juno Reggae charts, while getting good radio support from the likes of David Rodigan (1 Xtra) and Ras Kwarme (Capitol Xtra) and Don Letts (6 Music), while their follow up single ‘Real Reggae Music’ featuring the legendary Tippa Irie, was included in the Trojan Records 50th Anniversary box set, selling thousands of copies. 

2019 will see them pick up were they left off with releases on Trojan Reloaded featuring  General Levy, Rankin Joe, Mr Williamz, Burro Banton, Charlie P and many more.

In 2015 Reggae Roast built their own custom Soundsystem pushing the boundaries of soundsystem aesthetics, taking soundsystem design into the 21st century. Their soundsystem remains the cornerstone of their events and with it they have run stages at prestigious festivals such as Glastonbury, Outlook Festival (Croatia), Secret Garden Party, Eastern Electric, Boomtown, Telerama Dub Festival (France) and many more. 

At their events they have hosted some of the biggest names in Reggae including  Horace Andy, The Wailers, Lee Scratch Perry, Sly and Robbie, Collie Budz, Mad Professor, David Rodigan, Suggs (Madness), Channel One, Trojan Sound, Gappy Ranks, Finley Quaye, Aba Shanti I, Mungo’s Hi Fi and many many more. 

Reggae Roast have built a strong fanbase over the years with nearly 200,000 social media followers. They have racked up over 8 million plays on Soundcloud alone and their monthly podcasts receives 10s of thousands of plays. They have played all over the world from India and Thailand to the UK and back. This year they were personally asked by Shy FX and Chase & Status to play at their events.

Reggae Roast are dedicated to bringing reggae and soundsystem culture to a new generation and are steadily building a formidable catalogue of releases and achievements.

Music with a message holds such a powerful force these days. DJs, MCs and producers are held in such high regard and are idolized, in parts, by many of their fans that sometimes these artists forget that they hold a very unique card in their pack. Word + Sound = Power

With the current age of technology and the levels of social communications media available and with the degree of separation ever decreasing, now is the perfect time to use music as a vehicle for revolution, not revolution of arms and violence but revolution of the hearts, minds, ideas and ideals.

Music can be used as an educational medium, highlighting many of the world’s injustices and contradictions; also, through lyrics, and positive songs, music can enlighten as well as inspire; this makes music a very powerful entity.

Music is also the one true common language; it can touch every nationality and has no boundaries, it is a unifying force like none other in the world, it is for this reason that it should be used with the greatest purpose.

There are many examples of artists who have devoted their whole ethos and career to the furtherment of good positive music, it is just that the majority now need to follow and need to realize the full potential power it has to be used to make a change for the better.

There are few artists who can claim to have shot to Drum & Bass fame as quickly, or as succinctly as Birmingham based DJ Hazard. In just a few short years this incredibly talented producer has knocked out enough dancefloor bombs to be considered a serious sonic terrorist, adding to the noise pollution problems of neighbourhoods around the world with his uncompromisingly tight beats and earth-quaking basslines.

Originally noticed by D&B legend DJ Hype while producing a few tracks for DJ SS’ Formation Records, Hazard was soon snapped up by the Playaz boss once he realised the young Birmingham based talent wasn’t under contract. There began a partnership that has rocketed DJ Hazard to the very top of his game, both in terms of producing immense dancefloor destroying tracks that eager DJs clamour to get their hands on during promo stage, and his own career as a DJ which has seen him travel the globe, doling out masses of bass-fuelled pain to unsuspecting ravers worldwide.

Soaking up the bass-heavy sounds of Ragga and Hip Hop like a musical sponge in his early youth, Hazard found he was drawn into the sub-low hitting basslines and the infectious cut up drums of early Jungle during the early ’90s and, like many youths at that time, began to collect those addictive slabs of black crack. Funding his love of buying and playing records by working in factories, washing up in restaurants and delivering pizzas, Hazard put everything he had into following a path that he loved and his hard work paid off.

Evidently his journey didn’t begin with the Playaz camp; throughout the ’90s Hazard built a reputation as a solid club DJ in the local Birmingham scene, while he built on that success with his regular radio show on Kool FM Midlands alongside MCs Biggie and Accapello. From there the production bug was the obvious logical move, and soon Hazard was churning out tracks that would get his style noticed by hordes of the top D&B dogs. As word about this fresh talent grew, Hazard continued to work his way up the Drum & Bass ladder with determination and belief in his own abilities, and with such determination on display it’s no wonder that DJ Hype picked him up as the first non Ganja Kru member to be signed exclusively to the camp.

From there on a string of releases made Hazard’s name one that even your average D&B fan’s mum could recognise. Tracks such as ‘Use Your Brain’ and ‘Get The Fuck Up’ cemented Hazard as a favourite in many aspiring DJs’ boxes, and almost overnight he became one of the most popular Jump Up producers in the game.

Of course it’s obvious to anyone that hard work and dedication are Hazard’s watchwords, as you can tell from his journey to the top, but now that he’s there, he’s not resting on his laurels either. More recently his incredible anthems ‘Busted’, ’0121′ and ‘Mr Happy’ all topped the Drum & Bass charts, receiving support from just about everyone who’s anyone in the scene. The incredible power of Hazard’s production and the insane levels he’s prepared to take it to became even more clear as he dropped the awesome brutality of the ‘Machete Bass’ EP, a release that has secured his place in the top echelons of Drum & Bass producers, a place that will leave his mark on this music for many years to come.

With talk of a DJ Hazard mix CD on the newly formed Playaz imprint and the possibility of an artist album in the works, as well as his increasingly hectic DJ schedule and his relentless dedication to his art, it seems that all this could just be the beginning for DJ Hazard.

Since day one Chris has been a pioneer of Jungle, under various aliases, in more projects than you know, always favouring pushing musical creativity over chasing the limelight. His first release ‘Autoload’ with Noel Barnes (Studio 2) in ’91 led to linking with Paul from Ibiza
Records. In 1992 C.M.C was born and ‘Greetings’ was unleashed followed by the birth of Potential Badboy with ‘New Style’. Moving ever forward, Chris launched Limited E Edition records where his underground hit Work The Box (Let’s Go) took the scene by storm. With his grasp now firmly in Jungle, 1994 saw him join SOUR Records to work with Jason K (Top Buzz), Shy FX & T-Power. Frustrated with being creatively restricted in the Jungle scene he turned his focus to the Garage world working under the name of Chris Mack as well as working for MCA on official remixes for Shaggy, Mary J Blige, Nelly and more under his 3rd Eye Productions name. In 2003 he called on DJ Hype for his next step and in no time he had kitted out studio and a new home with Playaz. His first release ‘Play It Kik It EP’ was on Ganja and many more releases followed in the Playaz collective including the seminal You’re Mine and Girlz and remixing the likes of Estelle. Chris was now settled and where he needed to be to lay the foundations for his second studio album.
Potential Badboy LP. This is not a collection of singles but a body of work. A showcase album giving a detailed insight into what Chris has always been about. Bursting with Reggae & Dub infused Jungle that crosses all manner of moods, it’s just as comfortable on the dance floor as it is
on radio. With DJ Hype playing the part of executive producer behind the scenes, this 16 track game changing album kicks off with Revolution feat Demolition Man & Show Stevens, a positive vibe Jungle roller for all the sing along massive. Ready to get your head down for some serious feet stomping then Natty is the one for you. Getting the VIP treatment is Gangster feat Junior Dangerous. Start Moving feat MC Fats brings the swing to Jungle in a perfect combo of the two styles. Take a While feat Josh Bevan & Hazel Soze edges into the crossover world with eclectic vocals over rolling liquid beats. An album to listen to from start to finish, Potential Badboy see’s the return of the unsung Jungle general showing us his true stripes.
