I always wanted to write a song about rainbow lorikeets - these beautifully coloured birds that all have different personalities. Sitting for a while to watch them at feeding time can be quite therapeutic, especially with a beer in hand!

You Too, My Child by The Dark Messiahs is a melancholic drift through late-night shadows. A delicate piano ostinato sets the foundation, its steady repetition both grounding and hypnotic. Sticks Thompson’s drums remain understated, more suggestion than force, while Wilt Flowers' bass murmurs in deep conversation. Guy Stansfield’s clarinet and Blue Six’s trumpet weave mellow, melodic lines, their interplay rich with longing. Sonny Rhodes' piano guides the piece with restraint, each note carrying weight in the silence around it. A sparse yet immersive composition, You Too, My Child lingers like the last light in an empty bar, intimate and unresolved.
