Free Shelter invites one of Finland pioneers in the underground scene, @Erkko, for their tenth instalment of their guest mix series on IDA Radio.

Hailing from the central part of Finland, Erkko has been putting up parties in his hometown of Jyväskylä for more than 25 years and is scene as somewhat of a pioneer in the underground scene in our beloved country.   With a main focus on Electro in all its forms (although he doesn’t shy away from other genres), his knowledge in the electronic music scene is well established with being a part of the booking team for the award winning Flow Festival.   

Nowadays he resides in our hometown of Helsinki where he holds un-official residencies at some of the most visited spots and especially at the infamous discobar Siltanen.   

Having one of the most influential people in Finnish electronic music and underground history is an honour for us, and we couldn’t be happier with the end result. Press play and let Erkko do what he does best.

We are even luckier to host the first aural offering of SPACE MAN - a man who needs and appreciates space of all kinds. Matthew is one of the brains behind the Bad Taste House Collective ( @badtastehousecollective ) parties in Meanjin/Bris, and the label Esoteric Exports ( @esotericexports ). This all-vinyl mix treats us to a delightful journey through some of Matthew's enviable collection - a trip through ambience, downtempo, dub, house and more - all wrapped up in one silky, dreamy package that is synonymous with his style.

Sonic Safari embarks on a magic carpet ride for its 8th release with "Aladdin Tales", a stunning collaboration between BiGz & Soire.

The duo conjure an Arabian-inspired organic house odyssey, weaving percussive grooves with hypnotic melodies and glistening desert atmospheres. Ancient flutes, resonant hand drums, and subtle oud-like strings drift through the mix, evoking the feeling of wandering through bustling souks and starlit dunes.

On remix duties, the enigmatic Kanaa Knight returns to Sonic Safari with a spellbinding reinterpretation. He not only reshapes the original into a mystical gem, but also adds Arabian vocal lines, as if guiding listeners into the depths of Aladdin's cave.

"Aladdin Tales" is a sonic adventure through time and sand, a must-have for lovers of ethno, organic, and deep melodic house.

There's no question in the remarkable quality of the musical outputs that Melbourne has to offer. Every now and then however, something truly special comes across your musical desk. For me, one of the most exciting projects to come of 2020 is Acopia.

Acopia brings together three local Melbourne musicians @purient, @liluzu and @morganwright, commendable all in their individual endeavours, but together converge to showcase a contemporary incarnation of stripped back, emotional synth pop reminiscent of the 80s. Their debut EP 'For You I Try' is everything I love packaged in two neat little arrangements, warm yet melancholy and worthy of a tear or two. Acopia's less is more approach to music will no doubt see them flourish into their bright future. I'm counting down the days until we can see Acopia take the stage live, but for now Lachie, Kate, and Morgan joined me for a chat and one hour guest mix, broadcast live on PBS Melbourne for Passing Notes episode 81.

And by club we mean merky sweatbox basement, hopefully.
