Archaic Thorn - Massgrave Transformation

I am very excited to present the work of one of my favourite Berlin improvisers and sound sculptresses
Ute Wassermann on this month’s Cat Collar Bell Show. Ute sent me a treasure trove of recordings
including solo work, live performances and group recorded work which I’ve pieced together into an hour
long collage. I’ve seen Ute play many times over the years and always come away bulging with awe. We
met years ago when I was working at Morphine Raum and I remember telling her after the concert that
she was like Ghédalia Tazartès’ mischievous little sister. It’s because she has a way of embodying
elegance, grit, folkloric mystery and comedy all at once. Ute is a true Mouthstress. Of course, a radio
compilation does not compare to seeing her alien yodelling live so I strongly recommend tracking her
down next time she plays a show.

Ute Wassermann, voice artist, composer, improvisor is internationally known for her
many-voiced and extreme vocal language. She grew up in Kiel on the Baltic Sea in an
artistic - scientific environment that brought her into contact with environmentally relevant
topics. Ute studied visual arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg with artists
from Fluxus and Happening like Henning Christiansen and Allan Kaprow, and
subsequently visual arts, music and singing at the University of California, San
Diego. Ute Wassermann´s otherworldy singing transcends the human voice. She
sings multidimensional sculptural sounds oscillating between electronic, animalistic,
inorganic and human qualities. Her methods to extend the voice include the use of
bird whistles, lo-fi electronics, resonators, field recordings and multi-channel
Spatialisation.

03 It's Moving

Third Island is a post metal band formed in 2015 and based in Ireland. Drawing from a wide array of influences including doom, post rock, shoegaze, sludge, and stoner rock, the band aims to create a unique sound blending huge guitars tones and dark atmospheres.

The band is made up of multi-instrumentalists Liam O’Connor, John Quill, and Seamus Quaid.

In the summer of 2016 Third Island released their debut EP “Dusk”. Based on themes of nightmares and sleep disorders, the EP aims to bring the listener on a journey through insomnia and fear.

Third Island is currently writing new material, promoting the EP, and preparing for live shows.
