For this installment we've invited London based artist Fairground of Tears to take you on a menacing journey through the darkest realms of industrial/ebm techno.

Fairground of Tears is an artistic concept run by Piotr Sledzinski. A concept that is categorised by the darker, industrial and more energetic tones of the techno genre.

Piotr has experimented with electronic music of all colours partly through his former alias and alternative electronica project Ne Plus Ultra along with an involvement in the Passive Front Records imprint. This wide ranging experience and hunt for expression ultimately leads itself to the Fairground of Tears concept and Exiled event series. The latter playing host to Melania, Operant, Violet Poison, Codex Empire, Inhalt Der Nacht to name a few and establishing itself as a premier and forward thinking events series. 

In that very same vein his own sets and productions are not bound by any specific style. Consequently an eclectic mixture of dense industrial textures and atmospheres as well as electronic body music can be expected in his mixes and productions.

My name is Taylor and my preferred pronouns are they and she. I live in Brooklyn! Fun fact about myself… I used to teach hip hop dance in the early 2000’s. 

How is everything going with you right now?

It’s going pretty well despite the circumstances, which of course are not ideal. Been navigating a lot of personal challenges lately, from a break-up to family drama, but strangely I feel ok, like all is looking up….something in my attitude has shifted

What are you missing from pre-covid life?

Dancing. With people. More than anything.

Any fun goals for winter time?

3rd installment of Dance Floor Epiphanies for Resident Advisor is happening, and I also have an ambient release coming out for the boutique cassette label, Enmossed. And I want to finish my memoir! (maybe it will actually happen this time). 

Who currently inspires you music-wise?
ASC (always). Europa. Ma Sha Ru. May Vary. Abby Echiverri. E.C.C.O. Pugilist. Air Max ‘97. Eris Drew and Octo Octa. Datach’i. H.E.R. Noumen. And I’ve been kind of obsessed with heavy bass music lately like Ternion Sound and TMSV. those lower chakra vibes

Favorite weird drug experience?

The very first time I took acid I accidentally took too much and merged with the soul of another human until we no longer could distinguish ourselves from one another. I saw his third eye blinking on his forehead, as real as an actual eye, and then we became telepathic, and then we astral projected as one entity into the godhead. It was cool.

Why do you think it's important to share music?

I believe it’s the most unifying force in the world. It’s the most human language, and gives us access to our emotions in a way that brings joy. And it connects us beyond the mind… it connects us through the body, and through the heart. 

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

Cohesion & Unification. A return to how things used to be, without trying to emulate the past too much. Meaning, a sense of PLUR that permeates not only the dance floor but the social spaces, online and physical.

Instrumentist, producer and DJ, Vighil is one of the lantern keepers of dark, hypnotic and industrial techno from the city of Fribourg, Switzerland. Having evolved between many genres of music with different projects and aliases over the last 10 years, he’s now deeply rooted into an exploration of the most powerful sounds that electronic music has to offer.

Recently, he co-founded Lux Aeterna, a collective who’s focus is to create innovative parties’ environments. Hopefully to be reiterated when the world will be able to dance in joy altogether again. On the production side, he’s created his now imprint, Speed Dial, with which he hopes to release most of his music and other artists who would inspire him with the sonics he perceives in music.
