Episode #1 - Synth Jazz and Fusion Jazz

I'm excited to introduce a new format within my monthly radio show "Rosenbeth“ on Radio Corax and Radio Tonkuhle. The new series is called "Weird and Wonderful Music.“ In this series, connections between different genres are explored. The first show is about the improvisational elements of jazz mixed with the electronic sounds of synthesizers. The tracks are a personal selection of mine. While this collection is by no means exhaustive, it features many pieces that have either been long-time favorites of mine or new discoveries that have captured my interest. Some tracks lean more towards the synth side, others emphasize the jazz elements, and hopefully, some will hit that perfect sweet spot between the two.

“Bulldozers From The n s y d e” is a radiophonic project by Berlin-based artist Richard Zepezauer (RZ-1), navigating the peripheries of sonic knowledge and intuition. As founder of the genre-fluid n s y d e imprint, Zepezauer’s practice spans club culture and contemporary sound art. His work has been presented in seminal contexts such as Berghain, Tresor, and Concrete Paris, and extends into interdisciplinary collaborations—including the Sun Ra Reel to Reel Sessions with Mike Huckaby and a Wagnerian opera intervention with the Berlin Academy of Arts. Renowned for sculpting unpredictable, immersive soundscapes, his sets traverse from raw house dialects to ambient abstraction, opening space for new sonic imaginaries.

November 2021 I started a commissioned mix series with people I truly admire. Music has always been a big part of who I am, and it naturally shapes the world I create around the salon. As much as I love hair and the space we’ve built, I also love music — the way it shapes moods, holds space, and shifts how we feel. That’s why I wanted to share it by inviting people from different fields to put together a journey for us — a mix or playlist we can play while working.

What I look for is music that makes you want to listen, let go, move, and dive in. Sounds that can carry you completely, or simply colour the room in the background.

For this edition I once again asked a long-time favourite, Carsten Jost (Dial). The request was simple and open: somewhere between ambient and a personal journey. A mix that builds slowly, shifts, and surprises. Music for the salon during the day, and for those moments when you just want to drift, sway, and lose yourself.

What came back was exactly that.
